Necro Bump! I finally got my 2555x chrome & black version today. 3 year backorder!!! Just kidding, I had to cancel & pick it back up later, but hey I got a nice discount so we're good.

First Impressions- From all the demos I was expecting the best it can do without a boost is AC/DC. With this one anyway, NOT SO!!! I'm getting some very aggressive metal sounds all amp!! Can't wait to jam it in the band next week but at the moment I'm thinking rhythms will be all amp, and keep the boost for leads. We'll try it out both ways.

Sidebar, a couple years ago I did have a 2555SL for a while. that amp was much more "AC/DC at best". Never really bonded with it. I'd say this 2555X would wipe the floor with it. Compared to the price of a new 2203X, this amp is a bargain.

Clips to come! In the meantime, check out what Kyle did with his.

From your clips, Marshall has added more gain to the original stock circuit...BONUS!!

I also have a black tolex, mirror panel 2555x from Sweetwater, which I'm selling. I have finally given up on them and this is my fifth one. I'm replacing it with a Friedman Smallbox head that arrives Monday. The older I get, the less gain I use and my aging eyes don't see the mirror knobs on the mirror panel well.

So @Racerxrated was right, this is the Marshall that fits me best. At least so far, the main test will be band practice- but I would be shocked if a Marshall didn't sit well.

Reminds me of orange to modern on a Dual Rec Rev F, but with better upper mids and more KERRANG.

To back up what @Bad.Seed said, I slept on this amp for far too long...

In a way jubilee’s being smoother and tighter and a bit more modern in direction vs 2203’s/4’s is sorta like I think how marks and Recto’s compare in some ways, so it makes some sense. They also take boosts extremely well. I just prefer my powerchords to sound more growly/angry/gritty, so I’ve preferred 2203/4’s and have become more of a recto guy, but my iic+ is still not going anywhere lol. No Mark or Recto’s get uppermids like Marshall’s, that’s for sure lol

The KK noise gate is the ORIGINAL Zuul..Fortin copied the Marshall circuit for the Zuul.

Both amps will be killer, can easily do metal with a boost or two. I would vote for the Jubilee as it has a super responsive EQ, very different from any other Marshall. Tons of low end available; much more than the KK. Almost Mesa-like lows. Plus the Jubilee works great with V30s, and every other speaker I've thrown at it. The KK is more classic Marshall in the eq response and digs GBs or 65s/75s best...Jubilee loves all speakers.
Not to take away from the KK as it is a monster as well..I believe the Jubilee is just more versatile with all the different tones you can dial in.
Does Fortin copy everything? Jeesh

Alternatively with the 2555X you could throw Big Bottles in there.

Even as it came though, this one through my Mesa cabs has plenty of low end for garage playing. We'll see how it is in the live mix this week.
Check the bias. Mine was so far out of whack when I got it that I was ready to give it away.

It's not that they added more gain. They had 3 Revisions of the Jubilee Circuit. The 3rd was the revision that had more gain. The 3rd Revision is also the Revision used for the Slash Sig Jubilee AKA: 2555SL from 1996 of which they only made 3000 of. I used to own 2 of them.

Right; I’ve had 10 originals and 1 2555x. One early serial #74&; the rest were black tolex 88/89 versions. The only difference I noticed was the low end; earlier versions were thinner than the final preamp design.
But, from Jeremy’s clip he sent me, his new 2555x has a good deal more gain than any original or the 2555x I owned back in 2018.

FWIW, I had a 2555SL about 2 years ago, and to my ears for higher gain playing I would take this 2555X all day long. Given that there is some time separating them, and it's the smallest sample set. the SL I never bonded with and this X I've loved it straight out of the box.

That being said, I do believe the traditional Mesa Recto cabs with my early 2000s V30s are a big part of why this thing is so aggressive and toneful in general. Back when I had the SL I was playing an OS 2006 cab that was fizzier and boomier.

While there are always component differences I can't imagine that Marshall would have a reason to change the circuit.

Oh and one more thing- this X is fully loaded with JJs, which are my preferred tube for metal aggression. The SL was loaded with Tung Sol ELs and Russian AX as I recall, both of which are softer on the attack.

Yeah, out of the box one pair was 45 & the other air was 53. I dialed them both right to 70 and it got even tighter & more fun to play :)
That's exactly where I have mine.

My SJ bias was out of whack too. I put it at 72 per side, ran it pretty hard for a while, saw it get back to 72 and that's where I left it. Sounds much better. I also put 12AT7s in the preamp section to tame the distortion some.

2555x is a fricken killer amp.

Sooooo many tones in that box. ......never stops amazing me.

Can be real dark and smooth all the way to rip faces off cutting.

Both of My SL's were loaded with JJ's as i had purchased both of those heads in 2010 & Changed the Tubes immediately. My Original Jubilee which was from 1987 & was the 2550 model. that head had Winged C. I Was also using a Mesa OS Cab with mine as well as my current Marshall 1960BHW.
