A wizard to tie the rig together?

I agree 100%. That’s got excellent clarity but it’s bland af, no character or aggression to it.
As I mentioned before, Sotiris’ MTL clips kill and that’s the tone I get in the room. Thick, chewy, meaty and evil af.
If the Herm is a pita to record for you, I’m thinking a Wizard may be as well. Especially when it comes to capturing the girth and punch they have that so many fail to get in recordings. But you’re clips are pretty killer, so ya never know.

his clips sound good, mHensons sound good too. the herm id only use for extreme metal probably 180bpm or so and above, its just too tight and punchy for really anything slower, if you want aggression and character at extreme speeds though which is what i wanted it delivers.

I was in that camp of "they are overpriced and overhyped".....until I had a chance to play one at volume. Pretty much heard....and felt....what the Wizard fans ranted raved about.

I picked up a 2022 w800 from Clp45, a great dude and member here and now I am a huge fan: that amp can get so many killer tones, takes boosts amazing and actually felt better than my Ecstasy!! All while staying super tight, clear and punchy as all heck! Sold some more gear and got a 2016 MC1, updated by Rick to 2023 specs and with "C" transformers; equally amazing amp that reminds more of the Fryette/Hiwatt thing. And now thinking of moving some more gear to fund a new Rock Standard. Maybe a MTL. Either way, ya, they are expensive....but they are absolutely one of the best "new production" amps you can get IMO.
In what ways does the MC1 remind you the Fryette/HIWATT thing? I'm looking for a 50w vintage classic for the 1987 plexi/earlier metal panel tones, wondering if I'm barking up the wrong tree as someone who already owns as 73' DR103

What the 3 amps have in common (Wizard, Fryette and Hiwatt) is clarity, openness, punch and a more hollow/bland midrange quality vs Marshall’s. I haven’t tried a vintage classic, but in general if you’re looking for early Marshall tones then I wouldn’t choose any of these amps. I’d just get a good old Marshall (haven’t found yet any other great substitutes for that)

Appreciate that, that's been my aim. I'm just having a rough time finding a clean one. Went and saw this one locally, and even at this insane price it ended up having a swapped power transformer and not a lick of original solder, plus it had two extra holes in the chassis. Where does someone in the states find a plexi or early metal panel that hasn't been dickied with?

Yeah that can be the problem. Just gotta keep hunting around until you find the right one. I was able to get recently a ‘69 tremolo 50w and a 1972 SuperLead 100. The ‘69 had a reproduction headshell, so that made it cheaper, but otherwise is all original and very clean for its age

People still want 4K used.. Fuck that.
The amount you waste buying mediocre gear and selling it at a loss because it is mediocre, you could just chill for a bit and buy something good and keep it.
i wish one would pop up locally to me so i could try, kinda surprised one hasnt, i just have too many amps and they go for too much for me to want to try when im not sure im gonna dig
They are not the end all be all, but they are worth a try, and the Punch is fucking insane. It isn't about clips, it is about Playing the amp. If you don't play at volume though, I wouldn't bother.

Oh, I see.. Friedman, Bogner, Splawn & Soldano are now "mediocre" amps.. Perhaps TGP would better serve your snobbery. Or maybe you're more of a band-wagoner and like the hype of the upper echelon of cork sniffery.

Im sorry. I dont know why i like to give you so much shit.
You are right. Those are good amps. I just wonder have you tried a wizard? Not saying it is better than the others. Just different. And fun

Fun is what it’s about and I find it most fun to try something new even if I end up not liking it

Also with the good stuff, if you get it at a fair price you can get your money back or even make a slight profit if you need to sell it later. Much harder to do usually with the amps a tier or 2 below

Wizard’s have a punch and openness that is novel as is the tightness and sharp attack of Hermansson’s. All gearheads should try one at some point along with the other greats

For sure. A wizard isnt for everyone. But talking so much shit about them without playing one is kinda silly.

A lot of guy’s here from stronger than me of amps I have based just on clips they’ve heard lol. The Hell Razor KT150 also to me is much better than the MTL and MC I had before

You are going to hate me for this, and a lot of others too. But Reza, big snowflake that he is, gives me an accurate representation of an amp based on his clips.

Too many guys dont let an open powerchord ring out. That gives you so much idea of the voicing. The palm mute chuggs tell you the tightness. I mean, he has a system

I actually agree with most of that. For me a big long ringing powerchord is the most important part and what I do most when comparing gear for high gain. That’s where I can really gauge their growl (or lack thereof), overall complexity and eq profile and if they’re hollow or not (cough cough Wizard, Hiwatt, Fryette and Hermansson lol). I do actually find also Reza’s demos more helpful than many, but even with his there have been too many times now where my experience in person didn’t match what I heard in his clips, so I just don’t put that much weight into clips. I think others are making a mistake by doing so, but I get that sometimes that’s all we’ve got to go by

Agreed. Many people think Wizards are simple beefed-up and modified Marshall clones. They are not. They have their own tone going on.

Unless you play one first, or buy blind, you may be surprised. Not bad, just very different than what you maybe expecting.

Yes, they are their own flavor and I feel the new Hell Razor is even more in that direction of being a distinctive flavor

They sound great, absolutely. But their prices are insane.

Rezas clips sound more like a power sander on a metal desk than any amp I’ve ever heard

Your descriptions usually give me amp boners. You are very articulate. Except here. I worrry that you may havve been cursed by mesa caps or possibly reza broke in your apartment and pissed on your v30s

Hah where did you find me lacking descriptions this time? V30’s are obsolete for my needs now anyway, so wouldn’t care what happens to the ones I still have. Reza also seems to prefer those Alnico Cream’s

And what about when I talk about gear I don’t like such as Splawn’s? I try not be as negative like that, but it still creeps in sometimes lol

Yeah but it’s about how the amps compare relatively within that context lol. It’s at least pretty consistent
