So how did it go?

PS: I love the red channel on my G to C modded Dual, silicone rectified, fx loop modded master at 10 oclock, channel volume at 11 oclock, NO BOOST needed. Total orgasmic three dimensional liquid sex in amp.

I used it for the final set. Spent about 45 seconds with our soundguy getting it set up which is always a recipe for success. My in-ear tone is never great so it’s really no way to judge an amp. All I care about is that I can hear myself and nothing is harsh. But yea it sounded good and I didn’t have any trouble hearing myself. I wish I would have pulled out my in ears for a song or two and walked around but the reality is we were having too much fun and tone was really the last thing on my mind.

I did get a couple hours on the amp this morning, with shot ears and a nice hangover. I had fun. This thing is tighter than your average recto that’s for sure. Don’t have any other rectos here to compare, but will have my triple back in a week or two.

This amp reminds me of a particular Rev F I had last year actually, but tighter. I’ll see about doing a quick recorded clip tonight but I’m also really tempted to park my ass on the couch after doing yard work all day.

That's the first thing I noticed and what I was saying too. It seems tighter and less boomy than other recto's. I think it may even be that way vs the Rev C, but will find out when AB'ed either later this week or early the week after

I just never really bonded with any Rectos . I love the one sound I get but I need more richer harmonics and color to each note
The orange channel on Rev C's and D's especially is one of the richest high gain sounds I've heard (red not so much), but I understand why it doesn't work for many styles. All the 2 ch Recto orange ch's sound very rich and throaty IME

Yes. One thing we both share is an appreciation for the voicing of an amp, and a non muted powerchord sustained is one of the best indicators. I imagine this is the amp's best feature.

I imagine I will maybe put the amp in top 3 voicing when I play. I just hope i like it as much as the mark IV. That amp really surprised me. It is completely valid even with all that is out today.

I dont care if the recto needs a boost to get to that level, as long as it can
Exactly!! It is and in general just playing one or 2 long held powerchords, letting them ring and really listening tells me a huge chunk of the information I need to know about the amp's overall tonal profile. This is where I'm coming from largely in why I feel the orange is so superior to the red's comparatively less interesting/rich/growly tone

It could be. It's a different flavor than the marks for sure, but I love both

I prefer RED.

Rectifier is still one of my favorite amps.

Right on man. We know we are getting older when the ears ring longer, the hangovers have more hang, and yard work starts to kick your ass

We did yard work all day yesterday and my knees, back and shoulders hate me right now.

I guess I need to spend more time on Orange because my Red Modern is extremely good to my ears. Tons of color, richness, harmonics, 3D musicality, etc etc. More so than my Single Rec for sure. Sterile is the last thing I would call it. But don't go my MY clips

I don’t use as much gain as others and I do like the cold bias on mesas . But I’m weird
I get that, but you still need to get the right tubes either way that get in whatever your desired range is and even there can still exist a too cold for that (like below 10mA maybe)

I don’t recall any of your clips sounding lower gain than what I’m used to hearing, but idk. And it’s not to me so much about gain, but just losing balls in sound at too low of a point, but I do in more modern high gain style amps also often like it on the cooler side

When people through my rig they say it’s too stiff not enough gain . My main tone factor is picking hard and pick hard even and consistently . The tone is truly on the hands once you have a great amp . But ya people always are shocked once they plug in

Maybe they're just not used to decent tube amps, not sure. Sometimes when they say not enough gain they mean something else also. What are some examples of where you set the gain levels on some of your amps? Or if it's not the gain levels, then what you just bias the amps super cold? Like below 10mA? Lundgren M6's also would push the amps pretty well. I mostly play low output pickups in the 6-8k range, but I love my M6's too

i like cold bias . It keeps it tight . I also don’t run my amps up super loud so all that nasty sponginess people like a non existent . I set up for time not playability at all . It was hard for me at first too . But it’s what’s needed . For me

What would be some examples of where you set the bias in a given amp? For most modern high gain amps I don't want them with the volume up too high to the point where you start to lose noticeable definition and get power amp sag, but it needs to be enough where it opens up with punch and power and loses the low volume fizz. But in either case, I think with these amps even with low gain, low volume and low bias if one is shocked by it seeming too stiff they're most likely just not used to playing decent quality amps imo or unaware that you can also just turn up the gain and volume if needed lol

Orange to modern is the sound, for me anyway with any of the 2 ch rectos I've owned(2 G duals, 2 G triples, 2 F triple and #41 C recto). The Red modern is kinda sterile/clinical by comparison. I did do a C mod to an F triple and the red got more organic and sounded better. Leave the loop off, Orange to modern boosted is it.
This 110% is the way. I'd think if one isn't cutting enough on a Rev C or D Orange channel with EL34's and boosted (assuming it's not going against Marshall's or similar) it's most likely a strong case of user error. Maybe the guys that like the more sterile/less harmonic sound of the red ch are the same guys that like other sterile amps like the UU, Driftwood, Omega and others I'll stop at lol. The C mod did seem to improve the F's red channel a lot
