I was kinda disappointed in the recent clips that were shared of the Hell Razor compared to some of the Wizard clips @Techdeth and @TheGreatGreen shared a while back. Seemed too clean and crystalline, especially on the top end. Ear fatiguing.
No at all. It’s pretty much perfect .

I hear the same thing from people talking about grating high end.. if you have played wizards, you know about the high end. Then when hellraiser comes out, it seems very balanced in comparison, so it is confusing seeing all these people talk about grating high end like it is new. Almost amusing really. But then again, i play loud, so maybe my ears are toasted..

I don't know what models Techdeath and the great green posted a couple months back but the top end was smooth and rich without being muddy or harsh either, it was some of the most badass tone I've heard for that kind of stuff. I was speaking about some of the more recent hell razor clips and I def ain't trying to beat up on anyones rig or nothing, it was just an observation.

Nbd. Clips are misleading from time to time. I wasnt trying to attack anyone. It is just having played one and also been in the room with someone else playing, it is weird to see people say the opposite of your observation.

And then to see it becoming something of a phenomenon with multiple people saying it, idk. I guess i dont listen to a whole lot of clips anymore. So maybe someone is dialing the fuck out of the high end

I had a w800. And the fucking thing was great. It recorded very aggressive and angry imo. But it was tough to play for long periods of time because it had a grating high end. It would have been perfect in a band setting. But it was a little tough as a bedroom amp at the volumes i play.

So the mtl and mcii are fairly similar with that high end. But maybe you can tame it a bit more. The hellraiser though, seems to be very balanced if still a bit on the bright side. So with the inclination of the previous models and the fact thst the hellraiserr is not even close to another wizard, imo. Fucking guy did something intense with that design. Like wizards are known for punch. And they are immediate, and the hellraiser has that in spades. But it is just like what a wizard should have been imo. Very very special amp

The highs are perfection on el34 wizards. So good

@VonBonfire thanks for the compliments! The clips I did were made with a Modern Classic II Mk II.

The thing about high gain guitar tone that's really deceptive though, is that while the amp seems to always take center stage as far as where people think the tone comes from, the impact of the amp on the overall chain is actually more subtle than you'd think compared to all the other ingredients in there. Replace one high gain amp with another high gain amp in a given rig and the tone will change a bit, but if you keep the same amp and change the cab / mic / post-EQ, the tone can change so much it's like you're playing through an entirely different rig altogether. I don't mean to downplay the importance of a good amp though (I did spend the money on a dang Wizard after all, which I think was worth it for me to find what I think is pretty much the best heavy rock amp I've ever heard or played) but again it's only one ingredient in the stew.

I say all that to say that comparing person A's clip of amp 1 against person B's clip of amp 2 is kind of an exercise in futility and most of the time will not give you reliable info you can use due to the differences between the rest of the rig, which is part of the reason I was asking @Bram576 to pretty please make some comparison videos of his Hell Razor against his MC and MTL. :D He's one of the few people who has all three, and those clips, were he to make them, would all be done using the same guitar / cabs / mics. Putting amps in the same environment like that is kind of the only real way to truly compare them.

I almost hope he doesn't make them though because I have a feeling such a video will end up making me a lot poorer if the Hell Razor compares to the others in the way everybody says it does, lol.

Honestly, I would love for someone to get to try the hermansson amp. I feel like as long as it has taken, he must be super intense about it.
Maybe once or twice, he thought he was there, then his ear changed like one of us on the forum that oh shit sells an amp because we fucked up the eq or something. Then he tears the thing down to the chassis in a drunken stupor and has to begin again.. This is purely speculation based on no fact and in no way insulting the guy. I think his demos sound great. I just don't understand how it could take 4+ years to design an amp when he has an established mod that is pretty fucking popular.
I might be wrong, but I thought he’d put it on hold (or it’s just taking ages) due to all the regulatory red tape in Euro land. I might well be misspeaking here, so don’t quote me on that.

I know nothing about that. What is the red tape?

@TheGreatGreen been really meaning to do it, been super busy; vacation, house stuff etc. I will do it though soon!

I think you’re going to buy a hell razor after lol.

One thing I will add with that is, I pretty much am a V30 guy through and through and I mic my amps bright. And if I use IRs they are on the brighter side. I don’t like pulling out 10 dbs. Of 250 hz in post processing to make my guitar tone not destroy a mix. I play in bands, record, all that stuff. I play aggressive music. That’s not everyone’s thing. So my comparison may not be everyone’s deal, but hope to help out those who dig high gain aggressive tones with purchases because before I bought all my shit, I wish I had those references.

I will also add, please for the love of god listen on monitors, a car stereo, or good headphones before chiming in on tones.

Just checked my emails. So last I heard the delay was because Henric needed to get various reg approvals in order to sell to the public, but the project was still a go - just taking time. That was well over a year ago, so things have no doubt moved on since then.

If I’m remembering correctly, it’s the EU regs around electrical goods. But again, I might have my wires crossed (pun unintended)
Yep. It is called ROHS. I forget what it stands for but it has been around for maybe 10 years. It is regulations on using certain metals and substances in electronics manufacturing. I only know because I've sold lots of routers, switches and access points overseas and it always came up. Probably stands for something like Regulatory Operations for Hazardous Substances or the like IIRC.

It could also be he was referring to the regulations in a lot of foreign countries for VAT taxes (value added tax). Kind of like TGP

I spoke over FB messenger With Henrik Hermansson- there seem to have been some issues getting the front panel to look the way he wanted. Prototype of his amp should be coming pretty soon based on what he said. In general, production, regulations on electronics, supply chain timing, and the realities of R and D are always going to make products take a long time to come to the market. Im personally just curious which of his mods the amp will sound like- its going to be a 5GS build with all six voicing switches, so I would suspect it will be like his PA builds or maybe his marshall builds.

So to play the game correctly I will simply say that....

...I want to try any amp in @RaceU4her 's collection as long as he lets me borrow his hands and skills while I'm there :D

Man I can't believe you haven't put your entire life on hold just to make an amp clip for me specifically!
Kidding, real life comes first of course. Thanks for entertaining the idea though!

Can't wait to listen on a clock radio from the other side of a tile bathroom and complain about the tone. :D
