Anyone ever compare Splawn to JVM?

Better touch/reaction .... this is gonna fall under how responsive the power amp is...it will also depend on the pickups in the guitar too, assuming you keep the pickups a control and don't change when testing each amp, I would say as stated in the review to answer...
touch/reaction/fast response - JVM lower volume, when cranked up decently the Splawn will take over and dominate...

Articulate gain, from top to bottom the splawn especially when used w/ kt77's, and for the most articulate gain go w/ a pro mod and KT88's

Thanks,
josh

Yo Brian... more amps to look at right? BTW Brian check your PM

IMO, there is no comparison. If you're a tone deaf, Jackson-owning metal TWAT, get the Splawn.

 I'm trying to take sides, but that was funny.

Carl I think you're letting your dislike or hatred for a few splawn fans get a little carried away.

I don't have a JVM yet, but I'm going to and I'm looking forward to it. At the same time, I think the Splawns sound great as well. And I play my EJ Strat though my Splawn quite a bit and they sound great together. They're not a 12 channel amp with a bazillion tones but very few do and they've got quite a few different tones in them. I'm not going to compare the amps because I don't have both yet but that comparison isn't just over the top, it's full of shit.

Just the same old Splawn clips with some punkass Jackson lump of shit guitar metal trash hogshit.

Damn Carl :D just when i thought i was the ultimate Splawn fanboy, you up and tell me i need a Jackson to go along with it.

will ya let me slide by with my Kirk Hammet ESP? or am i gonna have trade for a Jackson? if so, which model of Jackson is the lumpiest?

As I stated before, thats just my personal opinion, different people are going to think differently, its all good. The best person to try and judge something to see whether you would like it is going to be yourself.
To each his own, and the best of luck,
Josh

carls a character, listen to his clips tho, and he is right, the JVM is a DAMN GOOD amp!

I think Carl gets great tone!!!! But I also think the Splawn Quick Rod sounds killer. Either I am tone-deaf in which case I'll have to withdraw all my compliments to Carl for his tone over the years, or maybe, just maybe the Splawn sounds very good too.

gotta love carl's comparison
Carl gets a free pass for talking shit because he's hilarious and can back up with good tone and playing. I like pretty much all the splawn clips I hear...but I have not heard anyone doing Cream, Rainbow or anything else besides VH and metal. I know someone who just tested a Quickrod and liked his Engl Savage much better- more saturation. JVM saturation> Splawn saturation.

The JVM has 4 channels, 12 modes. The Splawn doesn't.

Plenty of JVM clips around by a variety of players and IMO, they all sound excellent.

The Splawn clips on the other hand sound like metallic mids, non Marshall, one-sound headbanging metal shit.

Guys have told me my clips were what they heard in their head as awesome Strat/Marshall tone.
I spent NO time making those clips, yet I'm still getting questions on them.

Where's the Strat thru a Splawn clips? Why, there are none. How about that?

If you enjoy fucking tone out the balls with every variation known to man at your fingertips, get the JVM. It's IN THERE, if you take the time to dial it in.

We played a 5k PRS Modern Eagle thru the JVM and VM today.... at fucking volume, and it slammed balls. My buddy, who owns every amp under the sun, walked out impressed, as was I, cause I was tweaking these amps while he played.

No contest.

I just picked up a PRS McCarty. The guitar has tone. How did you like the Modern Eagle?

That top looks like it's about 12 feet deep.

No kidding. That top is just plain sick, though it better be for 5k.

Ok even as a splawn dealer, I have opinions! I had 2 JVM's the otherday, and opened one kept the other in the sealed box to sell, here are my thoughts.

...

Both are great amps that are both reasonably priced! A true priviledge to have and to have played both of them!

Don't hate me!
Josh

Thanks for you review, Josh. I still haven't decided to go for the QR or the JVM, mainly because the JVM won't be available here until May so I can't give it a try.

Getting a new QR to my country will make it $1,000 more expensive than a JVM. That's been holding up my GAS for some months now... Thinking of driving to a small shop in Germany where they have a JVM in stock.

The JVM I had was REALLY noisy, in both hum/hiss and feedback...so much so that I returned the amp...this was not a tube issue, so I am assuming I had a bad amp with so many glowing reviews. I will try one again in a few months...
