Anyone ever dealt with Zachary Guitars?

Hahahahahahahahahahaha:

"By making guitars entirely by hand, one at a time, I have gained complete control and freedom of design. I do not copy any other guitar design, nor do I subscribe to any trends, gimmicks or fads. I am not bound by tradition, nor am I limited or influenced by commercialism. My guitars are originals, and every aspect of their design has a single purpose; to make a better instrument."

That son of a bich!

"I do not copy any other guitar design"

...but then in his gallery (ahem, "Portfolio"), he proceeds to label each one with Telecaster, or Thinline, or Firebird, or Strat, or Les Paul, or whomever else's design he's deriving his from. I guess he came up with the idea of relicing in a complete isolation, since he doesn't subscribe to trends or fads either.

He didn't "copy", just independently invented all those shaped himself and is conveniently labeling them with their conventional names for us mere mortals.

Beautiful axe. PRS levels of originality. I should email him and ask him if he can put some legs on that so I can set my coffee on it in the morning when I play my LTD.

Why would you ruin one of the most awesome guitar shapes of all time with that limp dick "modern" looking headstock

The strings are wrapped weird too...if you look closely.

Must be that amazing ingenuity and mastery.

Don't want anyone to realize that is fucked, and poorly designed.

Expensive strings are the literal dumbest thing on planet earth

Every brand of strings is made in like 2 factories, then given different branding

It's so fucking dumb lol

Actually... I won't play anything other than the baritone sized Elixr Nanowebs...

They are a superior string when I tried to go cheap with Bernie ball, ddt, wicked, DR, zhs or whatever they were that had the 70s were my go to before finding the baritone nanowebs.. there's a couple others I've tried and they were all hot garbage compared to the nanowebs. As long as the nanoweb lasts, it's actually cheaper than replacing the cheaper strings when they get sour and dull because they do it 9x faster than the nanowebs do.

Always on the 60 or 68 sizes.

My only gripe is.... Id like a wound 4th string and I don't get it with the elixr, but the pros far out weigh that little aspect.

So I got away from playing for about 7 years, and got back into it in the last couple years. I used to use strings from a guy called Zachary Guitars, and I liked his choice of gauges. I reached out to him, to see if he still sold them, and then got this reply. Umm, am I the asshole?

I'm not a big coated string fan, but if they work for you they work for you

I wore through those things really quickly and they started flaking off everywhere - I get more life out of the nyxls, which is why I use them - I think they use like a cryo treatment or something?

Strings are a weird body chemistry thing though, one of my buddies can't use GHS boomers because they literally oxidize from his sweat or whatever

Sad thing is, I still have a box of the things, of different gauges. I liked his gauge spread, and if I wanted to, I could duplicate the string gauge. They aren't "life altering" enough to bother though.

I rotate guitars with them so its not too crazy on wear, mostly wear the pick hits the strings. I play them pretty stiffly, but I figure the thickness and also using 1.14 Dunlop flow picks might get me a little more mileage. When they start flaking underneath the pick I change em out.

It is a body chemistry thing if you secrete alot and your sweat is acidic. One of my old co guitarists had that... his sweat ate away at his floyd rose like acid. He went through more strings than I did for sure. I was playing the GHS 70s exclusively then tuned to B. I think they had the wound 4th that I liked.

I have seen people speak well of the dadario nyxl.... something to do with new york... and high carbon steel the way they make it is supposed to be superior to most. Which if you know anything about bladesmithing then there are definitely high carbon steels that are better than others especially with proper heat treats etc etc.

I haven't looked into them though, I need beefy strings if they don't have them in a 6 might try a 7 string set to compare to the nanowebs I've come to feel at home with.
