Anyone have Ozzy's 'Speak of the Devil' album?

I never appreciated what Brad did until I heard an interview with him. Ballsy to step in so quick and take the reigns and for that you have to appreciate what he did. He was a solid player but tone wise, fill wise, and chops wise, I have to say that I really disliked his take on Randy's stuff. His picking and note selection is seriously lacking as was his vibrato. The whammy abuse was pretty brutal for me as well. Appreciate him way more in Night Ranger but I get that he was putting his stamp on things. Schenker stepping in would have been EPIC!

You earn points for Schenker comment. I read in interviews that Ozzy reached out to Gary Moore but he wanted a kings ransom , Gary would have also been awesome IMO

I agree somewhat, but that album injected some very cool Sabbbath songs into the 1980's metal scene. Nothing against Rudy, but Geezer playing the bass on that recording would have been the tits!

Brads tone was the best live tone ive ever heard, OZZY did take it back to the studio to "FIX" it,.... or so said TONY IOMMI,.. SABBATH released LIVE EVIL?-(going off my feeble memory here)-at the same time, this was at the hieght of the "SABBATH RULES, OZZY DROOL'S" love fest .....

Agreed. Gillis' tone on SOTD is just ridiculously killer. One of my all time favorite guitar tones.

I've got the Diary remaster CD from 2011 and it came with a live bonus CD not a DVD . Are you talking about the vinyl remaster ? I think I heard those came with some goodies

I know for a fact that there is pro footage, but at this point there is not enough $$ in it for sharon to release it (remember they have to buy the footage first, and the guy that has it probably wants big $$ for it...like Bob and the "grail")

you also have to remember that at the time ozzy and sharon had F'all money so didn't really have the luxury of having lots of money to spend on things like live video, so most of their money probably went into getting ready for filming the show that is now the "speak of the devil" DVD....they weren't to know randy would die before it was recorded

Randy Rhoads is one of the reasons I started playing guitar. I was 14 when I heard about the plane crash and was absolutely crushed.
That said, I think you are being a bit over the top on your criticism of Gillis. I think he did an amazing job on short notice, and used his gear that he liked. He wasn't a Marshall guy. Who cares. It sounded
monstrous in a Mesa way.
