I never appreciated what Brad did until I heard an interview with him. Ballsy to step in so quick and take the reigns and for that you have to appreciate what he did. He was a solid player but tone wise, fill wise, and chops wise, I have to say that I really disliked his take on Randy's stuff. His picking and note selection is seriously lacking as was his vibrato. The whammy abuse was pretty brutal for me as well. Appreciate him way more in Night Ranger but I get that he was putting his stamp on things. Schenker stepping in would have been EPIC!

You earn points for Schenker comment. I read in interviews that Ozzy reached out to Gary Moore but he wanted a kings ransom , Gary would have also been awesome IMO

I read that is was Schenker that Ozzy reached out to but Schenker wanted too much.

You might be right . Gary would have probably looked in better in the leather vest they would have made him wear

I read somewhere that Ozzy (or Sharon really) said Moore was too ugly.

A good album but it can`t touch the original Sabbath versions

I agree somewhat, but that album injected some very cool Sabbbath songs into the 1980's metal scene. Nothing against Rudy, but Geezer playing the bass on that recording would have been the tits!

-baaaahaha!!!..

-i read Gary was cool with the leather vest, but Ozzy wouldn't let him put fringe on it-

I have the DVD. Good stuff. So wish they had made a Rhoads video of the same quality.

I wish they had recorded a video of the sabbath material....I was a bit disappointed when I got the DVD that it was the diary tour set only

-was just talking about this album & Brads tone on the MARSHALL FORUM,.. Brads tone was the best live tone ive ever heard, OZZY did take it back to the studio to "FIX" it,.... or so said TONY IOMMI,.. SABBATH released LIVE EVIL?-(going off my feeble memory here)-at the same time, this was at the hieght of the "SABBATH RULES, OZZY DROOL'S" love fest .....
Agreed. Gillis' tone on SOTD is just ridiculously killer. One of my all time favorite guitar tones. :worship:

The whole show is on YT. The vocals were all redone, some guitars were overdubbed, and there are two tracks that were actually recorded during soundcheck and the crowd noise was added later. If you search "Ozzy Osbourne Let The Devil Speak" on YT, all the songs are there. After hearing this for so many years, its neat to hear it raw and undoctored! https://www.youtube.com/results?search_ ... evil+speak

Kind of shitty that they only started really recording the gigs when Brad joined?? Apart from some sloppy fan footage of Randy, this is what we are left with. A shame. I listen to those bootlegs and Randy's tone is fucking massive as is his attack and vibrato. Everything is just on 10. Brad waddles and abuses his whammy bar with wimpy tone on this one..

There's the DVD that comes with the Diary remaster. While it's from the opposite side of the stage there's still great footage of Randy.

Ozzy did reach out to Gary Moore. I still remember reading it as a kid. "That fucking shitbag wanted a king's ransom."

I've got the Diary remaster CD from 2011 and it came with a live bonus CD not a DVD . Are you talking about the vinyl remaster ? I think I heard those came with some goodies

Mesa Mark II on that right?

2 Mark IIB halfstacks with a chorus pedal.

I heard it was a Son of Boogie that was modded. Mark Cameron owned it at one time.

Any chance you can post a pic of the disc, dvd and packaging , I`ve never seen that and would like to hunt it down

My mistake. I think it was the DVD that came with the vinyl box set. I think I got the DVD by itself off eBay a few years back.

That was pretty smart cause that vinyl box set is expensive

I know for a fact that there is pro footage, but at this point there is not enough $$ in it for sharon to release it (remember they have to buy the footage first, and the guy that has it probably wants big $$ for it...like Bob and the "grail")

you also have to remember that at the time ozzy and sharon had F'all money so didn't really have the luxury of having lots of money to spend on things like live video, so most of their money probably went into getting ready for filming the show that is now the "speak of the devil" DVD....they weren't to know randy would die before it was recorded

Randy Rhoads is one of the reasons I started playing guitar. I was 14 when I heard about the plane crash and was absolutely crushed.
That said, I think you are being a bit over the top on your criticism of Gillis. I think he did an amazing job on short notice, and used his gear that he liked. He wasn't a Marshall guy. Who cares. It sounded
monstrous in a Mesa way.
