Are Gear Prices Going Up?

I didn't with the loop but it started shutting down when hot once in a while.
Couldn't troubleshoot it over the phone so I shipped them just the chassis
(saved some pounds and made it easy to bubble wrap the crap out of it -
that transformer is massive)

I figured there was a crack in a PCB somewhere that only opened when hot but it ended up being
a wonky standby switch on the front.

50 years of amps and that was a first.
At least they didn't have to tear the thing apart to replace a board.
I had a Marshall SJ head that had the same issue. Marshall neglected to solder one of the wires on the standby switch. They stuck it through the hole, folded it over, but forgot to solder the wire.

Perhaps I'm optimistic but the state of music is changing. People my age (mid 20's) are largely sick of rap and pop as of late. It's stale and past its prime. People want some balls back in their music, once it's pushed on them they will embrace it just like they embrace every other genre of music. Although anecdotal, I've seen local college bars and parties play top 40 to a quiet and low energy crowd erupt into chaos when ACDC or Van Halen is played. People will listen to what their told is cool, but music with a soul will always stand the test of time.
That's great to hear, but until music authors are given the same federal protections that literary authors and film makers receive, nothing will change.

It’s pretty simple, all politics aside, inflation is direct result of too much money and not enough goods. This affects everything and should concern anyone who cares at all about what the future holds.
Money printed dollars from thin air. I don’t pretend to be an expert, but this graph is from the Fed and scares the shit out of me. https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/WM1NS

Welcome to Weimar Republic 2.0 - by design.

Asshole or not, he sure was right about Hitler and Nazis and internet chatter.
It never ever fails.
For your own knowledge and edification, the social and financial situation in the Weimar Republic predates Hitler's rise to power. Your idiocy knows no bounds, obviously.

Predates, or set the stage for?

And don't play the "I'm smarter than you" card.
You're not.

The Fed can tamper inflation through monetary policy.

The Fed's position is that current inflation is transitory, not long term--i.e., when supply catches up with demand prices will smooth out. The markets have largely been operating under this assumption, as evidenced by all-time highs in the major indices. The risk to the economy if everyone is getting it wrong is that the Fed might be forced to overcorrect on interest rates, which would be akin to locking the brakes up at 100mph.

Yes gear prices are going up. Demand and inflation both have an impact, and with a lot of our gear being in short supply due to Covid or limited quantities such that older gear usually is, with it price increases.

There aren't many people purchasing music gear these days. I was thinking... Pop music hasn't changed since The Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears. I kid you not... I'd rather spend the rest of my life listening to the 1966 Spiderman theme song vs a single bar of what's being passed-off as music today. Not only does it display a semblance of talent, it even contains a key change! That's more than I can say for 98% of pop music that's been produced over the last 20 years. Two guys from Norway (don't recall their names) have been supplying computer generated "songs" for nearly every pop performer (not artist) for the last 20 years. There won't be a revival of band oriented music on a commercial level. Thanks to the democratization of music (via the internet), there's no way to make a career of it. No air-play, no promotion, no public interest = no profit. It's over. Hobbyists, collectors and tribute bands will continue to play, of course... but, that's not nearly enough to sustain and/or create a resurgence. Those of us who are climbing up in years are trying to unload what we have, while we can. In another 10 years, a Gibson Les Paul (by example) will be nothing more than hanging wall art... Hell, it's already begun. Sorry to wax negative... but, that's exactly where it's headed.
Plenty of people are buying gear; just not for the inflated prices we see. I’ve seen plenty of good deals on Rectos, USA Charvels and a few JCM 800s at GC only to be gonzo in a few hours. You just have to have the cash and be quick on the trigger if you are going to beat out the ‘flippers’.

Beyond theories, if you want insight into used gear pricing why not look at data from one of the biggest gear marketplaces: Reverb. For them gear prices are a mixed bag. Used amp sale have been down, probably because no one has been gigging in the past year. Drum machine sales are up, probably because everyone was home recording.

Amp sales are down because the pop culture crowd has little to no interest in electric guitar. Drum machine sales are up because that's all that's required to construct a modern pop track. Drum machine, USB keyboard, MacBook Pro and gratuitous ass twerking... Done.

You are looking at only a single segment of the market. Pop doesn't own the industry.
More than anything I blame the whole "I Heart Radio" BS where one corporate office of
marketing folks chooses 'safe' radio playlists for broad brushes of stations across the country.

Plenty of great metal, blues, R&B, jazz, etc. Just not going to find it on mainstream radio.

Hey, you being another old dude, what do think of bands like Polyphia, Animals as Leaders,
Scale the Summet, Plini? Some ridiculously great music happening these days.

There's some confusion here. The Reverb chart reflects price, not units. Reverb can be selling far more amps for all we know, but what is clear from the chart is that the price for these amps is dropping. The inference is demand. It could be because guitar-based music is dead. But electric guitar prices are rising at the same time...
...the price of everything is rising.

Corporate FM.

As to Polyphia, Animals as Leaders, Scale the Summit, etc... Not my cup of tea, but I can see where younger guys would like that sort of thing. I especially dislike the drumming style exhibited by such bands. I get it... Neil Peart was a fabulous at what he did. Hugely inspirational for many. I'm more of a Gene Krupa / Buddy Miles fan. Swing is my thing!

Of course, it's what you would expect with a raging hot economy and 7% GDP
:ROFLMAO: ...a twinkle in my eye and wry smile on my lips… I am smiling now… but not in an overly wry way. Call my expression… quizzical.
