Yes/No ?
By addicted i don't mean you'll end up homeless but rather you spend more time acquiring/buying music gear than actually rehearsals & gigging.

If that's the definition then guilty as charged since I don't gig/rehearse. I spend way more time playing than gathering tho. My bigger problem is tinkering...I spend way too much time building/modding more gear when I already have too much gear.

Yes

What's your point????

In all honesty since I don't play out anymore I actually play more now than I did pre 2017....every day I try to get in 30-45 minutes. Problem is that's about the time it takes my hands to warm up. Lol
I tell the wife that, yes I spend a lot on gear BUT I can always sell and get most/all of my money back OR even make a few bucks. Better than other hobbies/passions that cost cost cost with no way to break even or better.

If I wasn't in a band rehearsing and playing live, I'd probably scale down my stuff even more. However, for some folks, they really enjoy the collecting part and there is nothing wrong at all with that. It's a hobby and should be something you enjoy.

I used to be bout 10 years ago.
Think I picked up my guitar 2 times in the past year. Haven’t jammed with my drummer in 3 years. We used to play 8-10 hours every weekend. He took his kit home 2 years ago.
Got into arcade machines the past few years.
Really a fun hobby. Sold lot my music gear off.

I voted yes because I don’t rehearse and I don’t play out. I practice and that’s it.

I do feel extremely lucky to play the gear that I do. It sounds phenomenal and is something most have never experienced. I’ve worked hard to make sure my playing warranted the gear I own.

I do not desire new amps, if anything the more I play, the more I realize what I currently own is more than I’ll ever need or have ever wanted.

I do not desire guitars, if anything I’ve always owned around 5. I’ve got one coming in I haven’t announced but will soon which is my 5th. Nothing planned afterwards.

Was.
Once I had more than I ever thought I would have,I dialed it back.
Then I stopped.
Now I have lots of money in savings, and all my cards are paid off.
My credit is excellent.
I don't have to work extra hours/shifts to justify spending money on the newest brand of high gain amp just to try it.

That being said....I wanna Wizard mtl, a Driftwood purple nightmare, an Omega Obsidian, AXEFX 3, etc...just to try them.

I only financed one Les Paul in my collection back before covid. 0% same as cash is a great way to build credit (not that I don’t have it - I’m a home owner). I am proud to say all of my gear is paid for. I’ve never sacrificed anything to own the gear that I do and if I wanted something I did exactly what you mentioned and worked a lot of overtime to make it happen.

Internet has turned me into a gear whore for sure. Lots of times i trade more than buy but inflated gear prices are insane now coupled with the fact most folks selling gear want money over trades.
Upside is i have now and have gotten some real good gear but its safe to say thats peaked and at some point what goes up crashes down.
I contacted Chicago Music Exchange this week on a vintage Marshall i have, never dealt with them before.
First he said "let me check with my buyers & give you a quote". 24 hours later his reply was "we only give 50% value on amps & pedals".
First how the hell can you even equate vintage Marshalls & foot pedals ???
Shops have zero inventory and are out for blood to screw people whatever they can.
Some call that "free market," ain't nothing for free.

I was addicted at one time for sure. 35 plus guitars and at least 25 amps.
When I moved, it was a great excuse to sell a lot of stuff. I let stuff go too cheap tho. I’ve always enjoyed giving people fair deals on stuff, but I went too far on a lot of what I sold. Oh well.

I have 7 guitars now and 7-8 amps I think? Still thinning out the herd.

The key for me was the realization that I sound like me no matter what I play through. I know I keep saying this in my posts, but it’s true and coming to grips with this is very freeing.

Single coils, P90’s, humbuckers…. Yeah they are all different flavors along with high gain and medium / low gain amps. One of each and your done……..
