That's weird, I've never seen a stereo track stacked instead of side-by-side waveforms.

Maybe that's what I'm seeing? they are side by side!! What the heck do I know!! :hys:

in garage band,
in the track setup menu when you first enable a new track for recording,

it allows you to select whether you want to record the new track as a mono, or stereo, track

so it sounds like there is something you are missing in a sub menu when first enabling a new track to record on...

Sup Brother!

I looked at the manual last night after I recorded the clip and I had Sonar set to stereo. all I have to do is change it and I should be good. I really want to get scary good at recording, so I'm going to stop being lazy and start learning. I still want to use Sonar because I have a lot of money invested in the software and I don't have the cash to switch softwares now!!

Holy Crap Bro!!! I thought that sounded friggin mean as hell!! That was Awesome!!!!

Yeah Bro, I did the clip 4 times and in stereo. For some reason I have a stereo track instead of a dead side. When you look at the audio, you can see 2 tracks one on top of each other instead of a solid single track. I think thats causing the weirdness because I even hear it with 2 tracks muted. (the timing is also loose which adds to the weirdness! )

Im going to try again at lunchtime!!
Means that the input signal from the 1820 gets routed to both sides of the track. It won't mess with the phase. Just burn some disk space.
This is because the ASIO out of the mic pre in the EMU go to channel 1+2, and the second mic pre goes to 3+4.
As opposed to say Motu hard ware where the Asio outs are separate.[/url]

Thanks brother!! I think I understand what you are saying. I guess the phase issues is the iso box and shity timing!! :D

Brother pat!!

I figured out why all my clips sound Hollow and far away!!
(pays to read the freaking manual !!)

I was recording all of my clips in stereo without knowing it. When I record in stereo and multi track tracks and start panning the tracks, I get some weird phase cancellation (at least I do with my rig!!)
I'm going to set my recordings to mono and double track another clip tomorrow!! Should produce more of what I am looking for!!

i've run into this problem before as well by accident Ralph. I've gone mono with even my live rig...just sounds more organic and pure and in your face. Damn u got some hair on that gain knob~! ;)

Hey Bro!! I was going to drop you a line on Myspace!!!

Yeah, I definitely hear what you are saying because I had this problem once before and I can't belive I did it again!! :D

Yup..... theres plenty o hairy gain on that clip but I was trying to be obnoxious!! :D

Back to the drawing board!!! :D

I've got nothing to add here but I'm very interested in the "final" outcome. It would be great to be able to forget about mic placement. By the way, if you truely wanted to record true stereo using the Axetrak how would you accompolish that?

you'd need a stereo head and 2 axetracks.

I think using cab impulses sound waaay better than any axetrack recording I've ever heard.

Not that I'm a big fan of 6 inch seakers, but there is no reason that you should have any phase issue from that. However let say you played the riff exactly the same...like digital copy same and you're off a msec your phase is going to go bye-bye.

Im not sure if I am hearing phase issues or just a hiss comming from the speaker being ina box. My ears are toast!! I'll be experimenting tonight for sure....... and I love you :inlove:

Hey Ed!!. If I have the recording set for 24 bit and then at mixdown I have it set for 16 bit, would that funk up the clip? I think Im going to set everything at 16bit all the way through.

Im not sure if what I was recording was ever true stereo but if I only had one axetrak and wanted to record to 2 seperate track, I would probably slave the amp and throw a mic on another cab. This way I would have the iso cab on one track and a miced cab on the other. The amp would actually be cranked but you could control the volume at the slave amp. I know that sounds hectic and you would have the same miking issues, but this is something that I wanted to try lol :D

Hi Ralph, sorry for the late reply - I think it sounds awesome, a bit hollow, but I'm sure you'll fix that in the future.

btw, you rock !
