OK so I've posted all kinds of things on picking different amps , but regardless I've seen way more BE-50 deluxes for sale than Be-100 deluxes for sale . I have a tendency to buy used and let the first guy get killed on the purchase price . With that in mind there's a bunch of 50's for sale all the time and very few 100's . There's also a fairly large price gap . Would I be making a mistake buying a 50 as opposed to a 100 or should I hang tight for a 100 to come up for sale??

As posted before I have a tendency to buy 100 watt amps but don't want to make a bad decision .

I think the 100w has an improved plexi channel, so how important is that to you?

Odds are you could always send the 50w back to Dave for getting it to 100w spec, so then that just comes down to your desire for extra watts and the cost to ship/mod.

The 50w has a fender blackface style clean channel, the 100 has a plexi style. The rest could be dialled in to be pretty close to each other notwithstanding the difference in feel between 100w & 50w power sections.

I believe the 50dlx was around for a couple of yrs before the 100dlx.

For people that already have a 100w Plexi in their stable, the 50 is what they would buy.

Only you can decide that. They aren't world's apart, so go with your gut and don't fear mistakes that likely won't even materialise (y)
Definitely a good way to look at it . How about I like the black face panel better !!! LOL!!

If all else is the same between amps and they prettty much sound identical tonewise the 50 watter will always sound and feel smaller and not punch as hard as a 100 watt amp in the lowend and overal breath and depth of the sonic footprint. The only way around this fact is some builders use 100 watt output transformers in their 50 watt amps to give them the ability to hit somewhat more like a 100 watt amp.

If you research the Mojave Scorpion 50 watt amp you can read up on how and why Victor at Mojave did this.

I can attest to exactly what I said in my above statement... comparing my 50 watt Marshall to my 100 watt Marshall's, the 100's feel bigger and hit harder and provide a different experience for the player even if all things are equal regarding tone. You only have to play a 50 watter side by side with a 100 watter to hear/feel the difference.

I miss my Scorpion, one of those that I should have kept.

Damn --I completely forgot even the name of Mojave amps !!! LOL!!

I'm curious about this as well. I don't see a lot of commentary on the 50 clean channel generally. Some have said the lack of system volume on the 50 can be controlled by the Return level control on the back to address that difference between the two. I'm in a bit of the same scenario as OP when it comes to these two amps. Sure you can't go wrong with either though.

Both channels have their own volume. There is just no way to adjust both of them at the same time that’s where the return level comes into play

This guy made the JEL sound like poop, both actually. this is how I dialed mine in when i had one

Damn - that sounds killer. What was your reason for getting rid of it / what did you replace it with? Killer playing by the way.

I would imagine that with the depth mod circuit in the BE50 deluxe it would hit and punch harder on the low end that's adjustable than say a regular Marshall without it...Just sayin... You sir have a tough decision to make....:p
