Calling all wah pedal fanatics!!

Friend of mine gave me a new 535q 9 volt a few weeks ago he got in a trade. He didn't like it.

Anyway I hooked up the 535q, CAE MC404 and JP95 so I could directly compare them.
The JP95 volume is + 6dB. Each of the six EQ bands is + or - 18dB.
Pulling back the volume and EQ bands I was able to get it more in the output range of the other two wah. Q was set at noon. I moved it up between 1 and 2 o'clock. I need to spend more time with the six band EQ to get the balance I want. Being inside the pedal setting them is a pain in the ass. But since it covers so much range worth it.

The voice is really throaty and different than anything else I have used. Extremely vocal and vowel sounding. Definitely unique.

Great to hear You were able to get the output lower. I have not even touched the stock settings because I mostly play wah on higain settings and I think the JP setting sounds very good.

Stock JP setting seems like about 20 dB's of boost. With the amp overdrive it was fine. With clean it was harsh distortion with the couple amps I tried.

I believe the six band EQ is after the wah. With +/- 18 dB's on each band it's easy to get extreme fast.

Seems flat it has a bass heavy wah.

So the EQ is dip switches inside the wah?

Stephen I have been on pins and needles! I posted just one post and got banned in 2 hours from that place. I couldn't believe it! I guess posting a video is damn near an unforgivable sin at that place.

The 535q is a killer pedal. I have the old 18 volt model! Built like a tank! It heavily inspired the mods I did to the 95Q wah.
That is why I'm here, GT has nothing on RT.

I'm going to try that pedal.

The JD95 is basically a simpler version of the rackmount Crybaby.

A few reviews said it sounded better than the rackmount.

The EQ being trim pots inside the pedal makes it fairly difficult to adjust and listen to it at the same time.

The Dunlop Rack Wah controls over:
-Wah sweep frequency range - selectable 6 positions
- Variable Q control determines the wah's bandpass shape
- Output boost level up to +10dB
- Selectable (Post Wah Circuit) 6-band EQ with each EQ band knob delivering +/-15 dB

The John Petrucci JP95 Wah has
- Output boost level up to +6dBQ,
- Variable Q control determines the wah's bandpass shape
- 6-band EQ with each EQ band knob delivering +/-18 dB

Yeah, they really needed to have the EQ and volume selections as external mini pots. The EQ ones could have a centre detent.

The center is definitely not zero. All at noon is extremely bass heavy. 100, 200, 3200 hertz sound best just about off.

I thought the same about the controls being on the outside. There is 8 of them. Put them on the outside and they would probably get bumped too often with some individuals. The price would go up.
People would just mess with it and get bad sounds.

Definitely a pain the ass either way.

Yeah, the detent would just give you a reference point for adjustments on the fly. Every time I start looking at wahs beyond the one I have, I have to keep reminding myself how little I use one. It’s just the love of gear and it really gets ridiculous sometimes..shit, I recently bought two OD/boost pedals and I already had 5….😏

The 535q and DB01B fit me best. Definitely picking up a other Crybaby from Hell. Currently have 5 wah here. Lost count of how many I have owned.

Wah is by far my favorite effect. Always has been. I kind of want a 535 no q again also.

Your right. They are all just wah pedals. But less expensive than women and cars. That collection was a lot more expensive. Not just financially.

Curiosity is the curse of guitarist. Try to catch a moving target.

A crybaby from hell is the last wah I sold. I almost didn’t because I had bought it new in the 90’s (green camo version) and I guess I was sentimental about it but hadn’t used it in years. It was just sitting in it’s box in one house move to another. I’ve been using a Clyde Deluxe for years and probably step on it once a month…🙂

I picked up a Crybaby 105q Bass wah.
It has a envelope filter instead of a inductor. Does some great synth type sounds with the guitar. Definitely different than any other wah I have used.

I'm a huge wah abuser and play mostly punk and classic metal.

My biggest gripe is that all non optical wahs fall apart constantly.

I have used the standard crybaby, the 535q, Bonamassa, EVH, 95 switchless, CAE, the bad horsie and the Fulltone Clyde. I currently have the Clyde on my stripped-down board and the EVH on my main board. I play hard rock.

The CAE was my least favorite. I didn't like the sweep of that wah at all. I would like to try the Cantrell wah at some point.

Let's talk wah pedals!

What style of music do you play and what's your go to wah pedal(s)?

Is there anything in particular you're missing in your wah tone?
Post your shit up. It’s fine. Just don’t spam the shit out of the board. If you are doing anything wrong-trust me- someone will let you know. Besides-you might have some useful stuff for the homies.

My main board alternates between a 535q and a Clyde deluxe. I play classic\southern rock, outlaw country, and 90's rock\metal. RMC will be my next wah, just not sure which one! I tend to lean towards the 535q as my fav just because the sweep on the Clyde is different and I think i'm just used to the Dunlop lol

I’ve always wanted to try the RMC Wheels of Fire but never came across one.
