Rob is right. After having played and listening to others play this amp for hours and micing it using different guitars it does have that signature Cameron tone.
I have been holding off and mulling over this for some time to say this, but I found a notable difference in the tone on the "official" clip and some other mic'd clips I have. When I heard the official clip I went back over the mic's clips I had knowing fully that you cannot replicate the way this amp hits you in the chest and grabs your attention almost immediately, to see if that is what I remember the amp sounding like and if the clips I had revealed the same. Speaker micing and whatnot are always going to receive scrutiny for various reasons. The LP Mark Day (a good guitarist) and others used is a good sounding guitar. The Aldrich pickups are high output pickups that really comes across dark, squashing some of the harmonic structure inherent in the amp. Maybe that combination and mic placement might have made that clip sound that way? This amp needs no help in the gain department. I did not have that problem with the mic speaker clips from a different guitar used through the amp that had much less output more along the lines of a hot-rodded PAF replicated tone. Also as a means of comparison, the clip of that guy with a black beanie
that came in with that Lapdancer strat guitar sounded quite articulate, brought out the signature Cameron tones with that grind found in the Atomica, and sounded great. I will post these up with Brad and Rob's permission if it helps.
