Cheap combo for metal

Agree with both the DSL40C and an old Valvestate 102. Currently have the DSL and used a Valvestate for an old-school Metallica cover band I used to play in. Worked great for everything from Kill to the Black album.

Did you ever find what you were looking for @Smash ?

I am thinking of grabbing this. I would probably be the coolest motherfucker on R-T if I gigged with this.

I'm loving my Boss Artist Gen 3 Katana combo! Instead of using the internal boosts, I had my Griffin "Boris" Frankenstein (SD1 clone) and Keeley Blues Disorder boosting the Brown amp emulation with the gain lowered and it sounded great.

I got a pv ultra 60 2x12 off marketplace for nothing. It rips. Of course I turned it into a head so…..shitfields sounded like ass but when I started working on it all the mounting screws were loose. Could explain that.

Fuck. It is so cheap. You make a compelling argument.

My son’s buddy dropped off a pv vyper and it’s a great little amp. Really need the computer to bring out the goods imo….

^Or the Sampera pedal

The Vypyr does a great 5150 tone but I think the Katana will last longer

That's what I came to say.
I have the 60w power tube version.
Much better.
If you do get a Spider, which I wouldn't, I'd get a the valve version - Spider Valve or the Vetta or whatever it is called.
DC-5/DC50 sounds good too.

I'll just say this. I have a Marshall Silver Jubillee Mini and EVH 5150-III 6L6 50watt Stealth and an EVH 1x12 cab and Marshall 2x12 cab. I could easily take those to a gig and would sound killer. The BOSS Katana Artist so far, sounds good enough for me to feel like I'm not sacrificing good tone. I liked the old Katana amps but didn't convince me enough. These new ones have added features that pushed me into getting one.

I still need to do a practice with it but my Orange Super Crush 100 is solid state and sounds killer as well.

I am kind of flirting with this idea. But I am also flirting with a orange supercrush 100. I see that you had the super crush and liked it, but hated the katana. I have heard that the Artist is a huge upgrade between the speaker and the a/b feel. But how do you compare it to the Super crush?
