well that's at least one reason why his music sounds like shit :hys:

I believe i played a valvestate 8100. Very badass amp. But badly needs noisegate

dude all jokes aside, the valvestate amps are great bang for the buck. that's why I said put a pedal board together with em and you'll have a great gigging setup on the cheap. looking forward to seeing what you end up deciding on!

at least you know you're at the bottom of the bell curve in music taste. 😘

but I don't listen to Death and they are squarely at the bottom of the porta potty at the local county fair?

here's an example of terrific music

@Smash I ran across a couple of Marshall tube combos in the local pawn shops yesterday. Both were 1x12, one was $325 and the other was $399 if I remember correctly. One was a DSL40C, the other a JCM2000 DSL or TSL (can't remember). I know you had mentioned that your Dad was in NW Arkansas so if you're up visiting during the holidays, they might still be there.

I wasn't joking! I love Ratt!!

Tones, great tunes and more hot chicks in one Ratt video than in the entire history of Death's fanbase lololol

all good fun!

enjoy what you like.

believe it or not, I'm not anti-hair metal.

FWIW, I played in hairbands (and punk / new wave, hard rock, thrash, prog metal and death bands) back in the day. Playing in hairbands was a lot of fun, many more gigs, bigger venues, many more women, much easier music, compared to the other music I played.

In the late 70s early 80s, I was doing hard rock, punk/new wave; in the mid to late '80s I was doing hair and thrash metal; in the early '90s I only went into prog and death metal after grunge pushed out the hair metal. Never was a fan of grunge, still to this day.

That said, I'll take several hair bands over Ratt though...Stryper, White Lion, Skid Row, Cinderella, LA Guns, Whitesnake, Dokken, Extreme,...

I have an Origin 50C and DSL40CR; both are gig-worthy 1x12 combos IMO. The Origin is more classic era Marshall, JTM and can get into plexi but not 800 without a boost; the DSL is DSL , JCM 2000. IMO

same dude, and I didn't think you were anti-hair metal btw, you have an animated Kiss logo for your avatar so I figured I was in good company

I'm surprised you'd pick all those bands over Ratt though, I don't know why but I was always drawn to them for some odd reason hahahaha

all good. Kiss has been a fav of mine since grade school. For hair metal, Vito Bratta was one of my fav guitarists back then; Michael Sweet (Stryper) was another fav, writing, playing and his voice - no one comes close except maybe the singer from Steelheart, but they had one big song. Cinderella was another fav, Skid Row - Bach was amazing too. I did see Ratt live a couple times, covered Round and Round...I liked bands that sounded different; Ratt, like Poison, Warrant, Winger, Slaughter, Great White, Britny Fox, etc. all had a similar "mainstream" sound to me...I liked the outliers.

edit: got my '80s hair metal in a box too:

Those are some badass amps. I am not going to be there anytime soon. Wish i was. I bet it is beautiful up there right now. I love in the winter how you can see hundreds of yards through the trees. In Holiday island right now, every morning there are Icecicles melting by the road from the hundreds of waterfalls

And here I am, liking both Death and Ratt...
Death weren't known for their tone but he sounds great on some songs.

thats awesome dude, i just can't get into them between the tone and the main singers voice, it just does not work for me whatsoever

ratt on the other hand, haha they had me at the hot chicks lol

I'm the same way with KISS. Goes back to bring a kid and thinking they were super heroes.

Saw your ISP there. Funny story, I met up with Robert Keeley and we were hanging out at Sweetwater. We were going to lunch so he could get a break and I looked over and the ISP booth was setup right next to his booth. I said "oh cool they have the Michael Sweet pedal" and Robert said "oh yeah, before you got here Michael Sweet was over there doing a demo of it". I was like "nooooooooo!!!"

Got an original Marshall DSL40C ~2012 and I still play it all the time. Upgraded the speaker to a Creamback. You can pick one up on Reverb for under $500.

its hard to beat the og 60 watt 5150/6505 closed back 2x12 combo. i picked on up used that looked NOS clean for 679. i'm happy with it.
a parametric in the loop makes a huge difference...not a huge range on that stock eq.
