Because of their actions my grandfather eventually lied about his age to join the navy to “Help kick the hell out of the Japs”.

And not one gadamn war movie on regular Cable

God bless your grandpa
Store Keeper 3rd class.

He may not have seen battle first hand but he worked his ass off in supply 24/7

I was on a supply ship 83 to 86. Although they kept us back away from anything that went on we had to resupply the 6th fleet. Not easy work

Thank you, and he went in at 16. Him and his 3 brothers. They were older and went in in ‘41. My grandfather had to wait a couple of years to at least 16 and he said it killed him.
Would be slim to none these days to lie about age.

Do you know if he was shipboard or on a base.

Under attack sinking a supply ship was almost as good as sinking a carrier.

My boat carried 6 million gallons of various fuels.
Tons of food and other things we weren't allowed to talk about or acknowledge. I had a secret security clearance.

Down in the holds we had to wear these button things that got scanned when we came out. Also had time limits down there.

We were refused entry into many ports. We had iirc a 28 foot draft fully loaded.

We would anchor out in the harbor and take shuttle boats onto shore.

The good news is we rode like a cadillac. Other than vibrations and noises we never knew we were moving.

The underway replenishments could last 36 hours.

merchant marine USNS ships would come out and resupply us. Then we'd meet up with the fleet and start unloading.

this went on for 6 to 7 month tours. But Grandpa was out for the duration.
no leave.

On top of that battle training on the slow days

Just some insight on what grandpa would have experienced plus the live fire and kamikazes.

thankfully i never witnessed any hostile acts.

Once I asked a chief why they didn't teach sailors to swim.

He gave me a grave look and said assuming you survived the explosion where the fuck do you think you can swim to

He was on a ship. A “flat bottomed” vessel he said that was a nightmare in rough seas.

Your statement about swimming puts some things into perspective, eh? Hehe

Thank you for sharing!
One of my Grandfathers fought in the Pacific (Also with all of his brothers) and the other in Europe.
The former married my Japanese Grandmother when he was stationed there. He also fought in Korea.
Came back to the states and ran a music shop until he passed away.

My dad was a pilot on a B29, flying out of Andersen AFB. 315th bomb wing. He never talked about it. He was an alcoholic and we never really connected. Long story… Regardless, I found a bunch of pictures and his military records after he died. One in particular is from the nose of his B29 over Tokyo Bay after the Japanese surrendered. Sure wish I could have heard the first-hand accounts…

So “japs” isn’t racial slur?
My best friend ( and guitar player) is a Jap and he isn't offended by it. But then we used to make him walk around on stage screaming "Godzirra" too. Speaking of which I haven't heard from him in a minute. Usually on this date I punch him in the nuts. Not even kidding. :ROFLMAO:

It might be offensive to some though.

God bless your grandfather brother.
Thank you.

It’s important to try and keep some perspective with the Jap comment. Kind of strange I’d need to mention this though. Most of the country wanted to kill as many as possible after having just lost 2403 souls in an unprovoked attack. Remember the internment camps. Who wouldn’t want payback?

Hell, he had pics of soldiers holding the decapitated heads of Jap soldiers. All in the photo were laughing.

It could happen again, this time with Canada. Don't think for one second that we aren't watching you damn icebacks.

I like em’ on nachos and hotdogs but wouldn’t go yelling it too loud.

No way you’re that clueless.
I think they knew the japs were planning an invasion and said nothing. We were too isolationist minded for the globalists who failed in their attempts at a global order with the league of nations post WWI and that was the play that sucked us into Europe against the better advice of our nation's founders. Mob mentality, just like every non critical thinker who put on a mask and stuck a needle in their arm cause "we're in this together". I expected it would cause offense but that really wasn't my goal.
