i think this is the problem most people have with masks. They are against the "agenda", not the actual mask. I don't believe anyone would rather have someone next to them cough in their face without a mask on compared to with a mask on. Given the hypothetical choice, anyone would prefer the person next to them covering their fucking face.
I don't have an irrational fear of getting sick and dying. People cough. I don't have fear when people cough and aren't wearing a mask. When covid began I was gigging bars and having drunk patrons shouting at me over the barroom din, spittle flying. I wasn't scared then, I'm not scared now.

so it's not that "masks don't work", it's that your butthurt you had to wear one. Which is a valid feeling, but lets not lie to each other about it
I didn't "have" to do anything.

I took an old pair of hanes and squirted hersheys syrup in them and rubbed it around. I wrote "EPSTAIN" on the underwear and kept them in my truck in case some fool insisted I had a mask of some sort over my face. It never came to that. I'm not in the military and I work for myself and am the bandleader so taking orders isn't something I do.

Do you want references?
i want you to answer my simple question. if someone was standing face to face with you coughing and sneezing, and they had a mask around their chin, would you prefer they put it over their mouth or could you not care less? simple question

A handkerchief kept in the back pocket is the traditional way to deal with a cough or a sneeze. I don't expect you to wear it like a showbiz curtain over your mouth. You seem to have some irrational fear going on with regard to someone with a cough or sniffle.

still doesn't answer my question, cmon now you can do it

I don't think it makes a difference. But sure it might divert the direction of the exhalation to some degree.

@Aynirar27 I would offer them the clean handkerchief I carry in my back pocket for these moments. I don't want to see disphits in masks. The retardation of it hurt me more than covid did.

Again, that’s the agenda not the mask

I would offer them one of the clean handkerchiefs I carry for those moments, for field dressing a wound, and for keeping my face out of the direct sun. I don't fear someone coughing in my face. If it bothered me I would punch them in the mouth instead of asking them to put a mask on.

Right, gotcha. Is a mask worth the hassle is a valid question. Unfortunately it all depends on how much of a hassle the wearer finds it to be. But to think a mask contains zero percent of anything coming out of a person’s face, is absolute bullshit.
Especially when many of those same people were saying that breathing in your own respiration because of the mask can make you sick too.

I've never heard anyone claim masks can't contain or restrict anything. That's stupid

Spit sure. Fine particulates and virus pass through it completely unobstructed. At best it lowers the distance it could travel on saliva particles. In other words if you do like your mama taught you and cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze you will contain a much higher percentage of particles than you will with an N95.

Your hypothetical just wasn't that good. People know it's disrespectful to cough in someone's face. Occasionally when talking to a person there will be spittle. I know I come off as kind of a dick here but I am a forgiving person because I am not a good grudge holder. If someone coughed in my face intentionally I would forgive them but I might still punch them in the mouth and tell them to learn some manners. I wouldn't be freaking out about catching covid though. BFD.

I totally agree, but people don’t always cover their mouths. And if they do, whatever they covered it with is gross until it’s washed.
I’m not saying a mask mandate was necessarily the way to go, but I will certainly say that if a sick person has to go out in public, wearing a mask would be doing a service to their community (among other precautions)
