Does the Gear Even Matter ???

Regular people just like geeking out over their tools/toys of their hobbies whether it be golf clubs or guitar gear or BBQ smoking rigs or fishing/boating equipment or...you get the idea. I can totally get someone having a passion for something. It's the NOT having a passion for something people that I can't understand.

I don’t think good gear is necessary, but as @DanTravis62 said, it can serve as a multiplier of your ability. Until late 2020 I only had a fender mustang 3, and don’t feel it held me back per say, but when I jumped to axe fx my playing got better for sure, and when I got my first tube amp in late 2022, the jump was even more pronounced. This is a combination of things, but I think the slight latency and lack of dynamics in modeling amps holds you back in potential for sure.

More importantly, the added motivation is honestly even more important- when you play something into a really special amp, and there’s that little bit extra that the amp adds, it makes you want to play more, and can even assist you in terms of writing- even at namm, playing lower gain amps like two rock and tone king had me playing genres I hadn’t played in a decade. I don’t think you need good gear to be an incredible player, but I do think shitty gear can hold you back from your maximum potential.

Something I would say however, is that good gear is not a matter of how much money you pay. Something killer stuff like 70s Marshall’s can be found super cheap and smoke the 4k “boutique” amps that people get excited by.

In summary, find the gear that inspires you within your means and buy the stuff I have for sale ?

I am much more picky about guitars than amps/cabs. They affect the playing immediatelly. On the last gig I switched between EBMM JP15 and R9. I enjoyed the effortless playing of JP15 much more but from the clips from gig the R9 sounded a lot of better.
The amps are different story...I can get it done with JCM2000 and V30 cab but I love play my Naylor/Bogner with Scumback cabs rig and it boost my playing about 10-15% :)
I remember when I arrived on gig with Wizard MCII. I was expecting nothing but the praise and admire to the one and only Wizard amp in our country and .... it doesn't happen :) It was classic line 'You sound as good as usual' from my buddy soundguy. Even the local guitar nerds though I built the amp myself because they never heard about it :)

Yes especially when yer not even in a band. But the world tour could kick off any week now.
And then there's those last minute fly gigs and rando ghost sessions for major artists on major labels. I can't say any more due to non-disclosure agreements.
:ROFLMAO:
