I got some JPIII's last week nice picks inbetween the size of the JIII and a regular Tortex plays really nice been using them for the most part

I must be the only guy who uses thin-ish picks. Too rigid and I dont like um. Been using Cool Juratex thins, which are 0.6.

I have been playing/auditioning the Red Bear Jazz III, Ultex Jazz III, Max Grip, Carbon Fiber, Regular Black and Red Nylons and I have concluded thus far that this pic sounds the best to me:

Tracks every note perfectly with no harsh spikes, low end cut, and no blanket effect. I know that Andy Timmons swears by this one and I now understand why...

I have been using the Tortex jazz III for a bit now and love em. I also use the carbon fibre Jazz III and love em to. They both seam to stay on my grip than any pick I have ever used, the tortex seem to have a little darker tone than the carbon fibre to me.

Jazz IIIs... I can not do without them!

I didn't know there were so many variations! I have always just had red or black...

Tortex ones sound cool!

I've used the black Jazz III's for years. I used to use the tortex version but in my old death metal band, I'd grind one to half it's size in 3-4 songs. As for the Nylons, I usually score them for better grip but otherwise, can't imagine a much better pick.

I just went and bought a TON of pics yesterday, lol. I have used the same Tortex ones for 15 years+, so I thought I might try something different. The Jazz pics were #1 on my list of what I wanted to try!

They feel really weird, but I am liking them so far. I just got the normal black ones. I also got a Dava jazz pick that I am liking a lot also

I got some Tortex 1.14 ones will open tonight and see how they are.

I definitely sound cleaner with these pics! Now I guess I will have to give them some time to see if I can get used to the feel....

Oh, one pic I couldn't find was the Jazz III XL. I am still curious about it!

Been a couple weeks now of playing the "red nylon" original J3 picks.

I like 'em a lot.

So much so I took most (95%) of the picks I had in my bowl and gave 'em to a guy I know just starting out on the guitar. I really dig their feel and what I feel is "better precision", which makes no sense considering their diminutive size. But they're great little picks - I'm hooked.

Picked up the Max Grip Jazz 3's in black, I prefer them to the red ones that I played when the Max Grip line was initially released and prefer them to the normal Jazz 3's. Used one pick for about 3 practices straight and haven't had to switch yet. Good stuff.

Yes, yes you did. I'm still not sure why it is such a tiny little red pick works so well - fact is, just a couple weeks ago I would have been stating "snake oil" all the way. I am surprised. But they feel great, sound great, and work amazingly well. Still kind of a mystery to me.

But thanks for the 411 on 'em

Dava jazz grip picks are awesome too!!

I tried these and they don't work for me. I play Jazz III XLs and initially liked the Dava picks but they flex where the black part meets the red part. It gets worse when you play longer, your fingers get warm and so does the black part. I actually had 2 sorta break during a gig.

That black 1.14mm Tortex looks interesting!

Awesome.

After 2 days I am really liking them also. Surprising after 10+ years of the Standard Picks!

I was really digging the Tortex 1.14 Jazz last night. It is a nice compromise between using Tortex and going full-on Jazz III.

I am still curious about the Jazz III XL and the Petrucci since it looks to be in between the size of the Jazz III and a Standard Tortex...

I am also sad because I also bought a bunch of Ultex Sharps to try out, but so far they are just laying there!

Ultex Sharps were my pick of choice just before these J3s entered my life

Seriously though, played the Ultex Sharps for the last few years. Loved 'em.

I'm on the thick end of the spectrum. Either Ultex Jazz III's or Ultex 2.0 mm, depending on the song.

Anyone compared the regular black Jazz III to the Ultex Jazz III (the yellow one , not the 2mm) ??
What are the differences ?

the Ultex Jazz III is 1.38mm. I found it to be a little brighter than the nylon black J3.
I've also tried Pick Boy "the edge" picks, same sharp tip, slightly larger than J3, probably more like the XL.

I went out looking for some carbon fiber jazz III's last weekend and found these instead. Very easy transition from the regular red jazz III's to the Dava. I think they do grip a little better.

I like the Dava's as well. When I first tried them I didn't like it. After a few hours they really grew on me, I love the grip they have.
