Eddie trying to play eruption 2-20-08

Was anybody expecting anything much better from this ill-advised reunion? Seeing Van Halen as a 14 year old in 1984 is what started me on the guitar, but seeing a Van Halen show at this stage of the game wasn't even on my radar.

Ed hasn't put forth anything remotely creative since 5150 and Roth has been floundering around acting like a psuedo-intellectual douchebag for the past 15 years. What exactly does a Van Halen concert in 2008 offer anyway?

I'm really sorry to see the state my boyhood hero finds himself in right now, but fuck all those guys for pedaling this horseshit in the first place.

:hys:

i just watched the clip again!

it is so much like st. sanders spoof clips it's scary!
eruption at half speed chock full o wrong notes!

the way he flips his guitar chord around and makes mean gestures at his crew/monitor mix dude side stage sorta seems like he is frustrated/ embarrased by his playing and is trying to pretend it's someone else's fault,

so that he might cause the crowd to say "it wasn't his fault, something was wrong with his chord/equipment"

his former tech on another forum said it was quite the nightmare dealing with eddie on a day to day basis....

BTW - Ed D is right. Nobody but us cares. I went to my last VH show in '04 and EVH played the most incoherent, useless, noise laden "solo spot" in history while the crowd chanted his name adoringly... Vey few people hear what we hear, nor do they care. They just was to drink some beers and cheer for Ed regardless of what he does...

Steve

i know there is always the drunk hessian factor screaming cheers at anything loud, but i can't for one instant think anyone heard that debacle of a solo and truly celebrated it.

that solo will be on a par with the infamous "Pepi photoshop" incident.
pure damage.

What you are missing, my dear friend, is that it is not just the "drunken hessian factor". Most of the people at the show I was at were ecstatic with the whole performance and when asked to indicate the highlights included "Eddie's Guitar solo, brah!" We are not even close to the majority and most people that go to a VH show would have loved the debacle posted here at loud volume after a beer or two remembering seeing the mighty VH "back in the day...". We are a small minority my friend... Most people don't know enough about guitar to give a crap as long as its loud and resembles the orginal music in some way, shape or form...

Getting another guitarist to sub in for Eddie is silly. They got a "better" singer in Sammy Hagar who is much more capable of sounding like the album than DLR, yet the old hardcore fans never accepted him. So, I don't think the hardcore guitar fans would accept anyone else either.

I agree with Ed 100% and to show him my appreciation Id be happy to give him another suck off. Wait...

What?

Ahh gat damn it.

Well it didnt help that the music they made with Hagar was not nearly as rockin' as the old stuff. Hagar is definitely a superior vocalist but the music Eddie wrote around him didnt have that "fire" the first four albums had. IMO. :)

5150 was pretty good, I think. The guitar tones were radically different from anything Ed had done previously and the music in general had life.

I wish Van Halen had gone out like Larry Bird.

I agree.....Valerie, probably stepped in and told Wolfie to get the hell home instead of hanging out with his father. What a fuckin mess!

Good, maybe M.A. will be back in the lineup.

That's why I refused to see them...probably "missed out", but hell, they announced it as a reunion tour, and it's not a reunion if one of the members isn't there (and could be)

Zeppelin...Jason Bohnam playing in place of his father - that's cool as hell. I'd see them in a heartbeat if they came to the USA, and anywhere near here...

I used to love Van Halen.

I don't know how many walkmens I went through playing VHI when I was like 5.

Absolute shame.

I seen this last night. It was horrific. 'Sounded like your typical music store wanker.

What was the "Pepi Photoshop" incident? Couldn't have been worse than this, right?

I am getting a refund for my resheduled tickets. Too much $$ to waste on hackage.

Good luck getting healthy Eddie!
