I've given up on the G-System, I cant get the noise out of it, no matter what I've tried I still have a loud hiss. I was on the phone yesterday for an hour with a guy from the TC forum and he couldn't figure it out. What effects are you using with you amp. I have to have delay but I also like reverb and chorus. I just sold all my pedals to buy this G-System and I hate the thought of buying pedals again but I might end up doing it.

Sorry but G-system all in the serial loop is dead quiet.
I've sold my G-system but to place it all in the loop follow this signal path:
-instrument input..>..serial loop in
-G-output (L if mono)..>..serial loop out

Turn off insert loop for preamp.

Maybe you must adjust your levels but is dead quiet like the other tc fx not using the 4 cable method..of course..you'll have a wha in the fx loop..not so good
and all the loop are in the fx loop.

As I said no G-system on earth connected with 4 cable method not increase hiss.( hum problems can be easly solved).

Two ideas for you deadly quiet: :)
-g.major 2 or eventide eclipse.

anyone using a tubescreamer? if so, which one and why?

Their was an old thread about the herbert and OD pedals, I don't remember the name of the thread but the majority of people said that OD doesn't sit well with Herbie and that it is beautiful just the way it is. I know that i'm not helping very much but that's all I know.

Good Luck!

Have you tried just running it in the loop (i.e. not using the 4 cable method)? I had better results with that setup. I have also just started using the TC Nova System in the loop. I do not have all of the levels set but it was not too bad (not dead quiet though).

I went through the manual for the TC Nova System when I first got it. I hooked it up to the Einstein combo's serial loop and followed the instructions in the manual. It only took me one half hour to get everything set up for use with my Diezel. It is dead quiet and has unity gain for the sounds. You will need to unplug and then replug in one of the cables in the serial loop as you set up the Nova System to get unity gain or close to it, which the manual reccomends you do as you go along.

Follow the instructions and your NS will work perfectly.

Remember that with nova system in the loop you haven't drive algorithm. ;)

That is true :salute: , but I never degrade the tone of my Diezels with outboard distortion pedals anyway. I put too much money into the best NOS tubes I can get to allow that to happen.

Eventide Timefactor pedal. Sounds amazing!!! Very transparent easy to use and it has midi and a looper. $399

If you need reverb, phaser, flanger, chours the Modfactor.

I jut got back from my local shop where I was comparing the Eventide Time Factor and the Empress Super Delay. The Eventide was nice, but a little too complicated for me. I did like the feature that allows you to control how it bypasses so you can do true bypass or let it trail out when you turn the effect off. The other feature I liked with the ducking mode. But, it was still too much hunting and searching for the right sound.

I went with the Empress. It's simple to use and it sounds good.

I haven't experimented with how to set it in the loop of my VH4 yet, though. Series, parallel, send 2, etc.???? In the store, I went with Send 2/parallel, set the pedal to max mix and volume and then used the amp's mix control to set the effect level. No noise at all, but there was a slight change in volume when turning the loop on/off and a slight change in the tone when using the loop, regardless of whether or not the pedal was on or bypassed.

Go with a TC G-Major, you can't beat the price. It's a great unit, very east to setup and has all the eFx that you will need for the most part. I had a G-Force and it was cool but the only difference between the G-Major and the G-Force is the intelligent pitch placement.

You could try an Axe-Fx but I didn’t see that it was worth the price of a used car. I retuned my Axe-FX after 2 weeks.

My G-Major works seamlessly for midi channel and effect following on my Herbert and I would think the same is true for the VH4(S). Program your effect and chose your channel to assign to it. And there is absolutely no noticeable latency too.

You could pay more for whatever, but you won’t get more.

Maybe G-major 2..it has a nice Int.Pitch...but no comparison with eclipse...don't take me wrong: TC makes great effect..but eventide imho are better.

I'm going to order a G-Major 2. Just one last question. What are you using for the foot controller? Columbus or ??????? Does the Columbus match up good to the G major and control it with no issues? Thanks guys!!

If you got deep pockets then make it so. I just have spent 10s of thousands of $$$ over the years on fx just to realize that a majority of the fx in the unit I rarely use. I'm tired of returning fx and pondering what may trim things down.

Unless I win the lottery I may reconsider, once again!

Ive seen new G Major 2's for $400. I'll spend more than that going with a few pedals.

I love my G major 2 and the ability to edit on my laptop is amazing.
Are you running it serial or parrallel with kill dry?

I have a Eventide Eclipse and a TC G-Force right now that a friend is letting me use to see which one I like better. I'm really amazed with the Eclipse!! I do like the chorus' better with the G-Force but the delays and reverbs I think are better in the Eclipse. The harmonizer of course is the Eclipse. The only thing that scares me is the Eclipse seems so high tech to program. Does anyone use it and how idiot friendly is it?

I just checked out the demos of the Eventide Eclipse on their site. It seems to be almost an amp sim. When you hit the bypass you here the clean signal, then defeat the bypass, and then you hear the sim kick in. The effects sound cool, but they are really IMO more for show. I'd mainly use dynamic delay, reverb, chorus, phase, octave, vibrato, leslie and a few others that all sound awesome in my TC.

No sim will ever replace the naturally impeccable drive and tones of Herbert.

Plus 2K is a bit much for my pocket book. It gets to a point with some of these effects units that they become machines for clowning around, per se. That’s also one reason I kicked the Axe-FX to the curb. I’m not a sim guy, my G-Major sounds great and compliments my Herbert well, plus you can’t beat the price!

Also, BTW the effects in the G-Force are the same as the effects in the G-Major with some subtle differences in intelligent pitch placement.

Different strokes I suppose…

I agree with you 100%, my buddie just has a lot of equipment and let me take these and check them out.

w00t..!!
After many months of using, Gmajors, Gforce, Axefx, Intellifex and a few Spx90's I finally have finished my effects for use with my Einstein rig.
Current setup is a TC1210 and a Lexicon PCM70 in the serial loop and a Lexicon PCM42 in the Parallel loop. For pedals I am using an EVH phasor with a EVH flanger {which may be traded out for the new Gilbert Flange}, a Danelectro Back Talk reverse delay, a Boss CS-2 and a Coffin Blooddrive pedal. All pedals get switched using a GCX. For amp switching and rack unit bypassing, that is done with an Octopuss. Depending on the gig I also run this in stereo with an early Dual Recto {Power Section only}. The Lexicon stuff with the Diezel is such a sweet combo. Much warmer than all of the stuff I mentioned earlier {ymmv,imo..etc..}. I still have the other effects units for my Boogie rigs, but man, things havent been this much fun in a looooong time!!!!

Ive been using the TC GMajor (first edition) for over 6 years...zero noise...and so easy a caveman can use it. And pretty cheap too.
Caveman?? That hurts Pauly!!
