It seems the evil pumpkin was about to be released before covid, and then just went away. I don't remember if it was covid itself or the huge wave of bad publicity of him not refunding the standby issue and everyone finding out that his amps were not built by him at all. Larry had a lot to do with killing his name here, which is fair play it seems. I know Fortin was the second coming there for a bit.
Exactly

hes the popular player from 1985 that gets brought up for no reason that derails threads away from the actual topic trying to be discussed, once 1985 guy comes up for whatever reason you know that thread will inevitably turn into 80s metal review lol. ive seen it happen in i dont know how many threads like that grunge one or the cialis vs levitra
Never heard of him :dunno:

Not all of the Bones amps were the same. Some of them were modded by Mike to have more gain. I had one he built for Steve K and it could do metal, had a pretty clear and tight lowend also. It wasnt as aggressive as the Natas though (I played an original one a few times).

Yeah kinda. It has a good sound for rock. Nice and thick and chunky in some ways. But just not aggressive enough for my tastes. I need more of that angry snarl other similar amps have. Big Wreck uses a Bones. You can see it in the video for this song. It does sound good in this context. If I had kept it, I would have modified it to more angry while still retaining its inherent timbre and I think it would have been really nice. Needed a tweak to the tone stack, NFB circuit, and those first two stages and could have been a screamer.

I missed this tour, but I've seen Big Wreck in concert 3 times now. . Once in Watertown, NY, 2nd time in Boston, 3rd time in Albany, NY. . Ian used to use the Bones and a Suhr od100 or pt100 (can't remember now which Suhr) but the last 2 times he used the Suhr Pt100 and Suhr Hedgehog, and he swells in the Hedgehog with a volume pedal for most leadsl. Regardless of any of this, he is a monster guitarist and vocalist and sounds amazing through anything. . .. With all that said, I have 1 of the 1st Fortin Cali-modded JCM800bass 100 watters (from when he only did mods well before the Bones was released) , and about 10 other Marshalls most modded, and many other amps. .It's 1 of the better amps I've owned. I have nothing negative to say. . Everyone else can carry on with that ;) (I'm only quoting your post about Ian's amps in concert). .. . I sure wish I saw them this time as well, but wasn't in the cards

The one I had was modded by Fortin to have all the extras.

How is the NATAS sound?? From YT clips, very dry and unsaturated amp. Drier than Fryette stuff.
It definitely is dry, but not in a Fryette way… there is something in the mids that is just annoying for lack of a better word. I have older VHTs that I love so I think it’s just something weird that I just don’t gel with. I really wanted to like it but every time I turn it on, I think something is wrong with the amp!! 😂

From my memory, many people raved it as a great metal amp. So, I always want to hear real users opinion. Thanks man!!

At least you can get some nice coin for it I suppose

I didn’t like the Natas I tried much either. It had some nice metallic clank, but I remember it being a little more on the artificial side, kinda smooth or lacking growl in places and not sounding as big or punchy or having the oomph as some other amps in the room like the Wizard MC I had there at the time

One of my friends has a Meshuggah and to me it was nothing special. Just sounded like another modern made kinda filtered sounding Marshall-esque amp with a Jose type mod, but very lacking in that raw, angry, lively/organic tone next to his ‘80’s and ‘70’s Marshall’s boosted or Cameron mods he had. Haven’t tried other Fortin models

Possibly. I’m not sure there is even a market for it like there used to be?

You're right, I'll give you tree fiddy for it lol

Honestly, I’ll probably put it up for sale soon. I haven’t played it since it had fresh tubes put in last year…

I’m not 100% sure (I know nothing about electronics) I know it was one of the first few he did. I bought from EMG77 on here.

Just have a look under the hood. Shouldn't take more than 60 seconds.
Does it look anything like this:

The Natas is a killer amp, but it’s definitely not for everyone. It has a “sound” and can be a bit finicky with pickups. It’s not like amps like EVH’s for example that have a homogenizing affect on everything you plug in to it. Not hating on the EVH since I have a stealth and really dig it, but it definitely has far less tonal variability (for better or worse) between guitars compared to the Natas. It also seems to like 16ohm cabs best ime. My favorites have been 16 ohm v30 cabs (particularly front loaded) and Marshall 16ohm g12t75 cabs.
