Get ready to be mad... the Fortin Killer Kali module is awesome!

So it was a volume thing. The Boutique Amps booth was right across from Iconic Guitars (That was Kevin, their owner) and I guess the guy from BAD that you can see in my vid dialing the amp just had the level too high. Had nothing to do with me. I only had hands on the guitar.
Ehhhh... hardly iconic guitars. I just took a look. The same three or four designs that everyone else is selling. Business must be rough.

That guy was a FUCKING DICK. Jer, you are a better man than me. It’s not that he asked … it was HOW he told you. And then came back with more fake Cali tough guy bullshit after the first comment. I had to look up who Ironic Guitars even was. To top it all off, dude’s got a super punchable face. Only thing going for them is Doug Rappaport used some in a few demos.

Nobody needs those over priced guitars.

Well what the fuck you gonna do? People are gonna people.

Well hope this was a good one then?

Well this will certainly be cheaper but it won’t sound like the Friedman. It’ll still bet a faster attack and more “Fortin-esque” in the mids, but the vibe will be there for sure.

The Friedman will have more “hair around the note”

And yeah, the end had to stay in…

I think it sounds good here! I am also looking forward to videos where people go through the settings, use a bigger poweramp, etc....

I have the BE-Dlx, which does good for smoother, polished modded Marshall tones, but have been looking for another module for more aggressive modded Marshall sounds. I think this module might be it.

I’m hoping to get one to demo for the channel.

You could build your own or easily turn the Gower version into the Fortin version with just a few part changes. They're so close to each other and the details are out there...

I rarely go to SLO anymore. Just design my own junk. I’ll have to go look though.

Sadly he’s not. That’s Kevin from Iconic Guitars. He also built the US bolt on BC Rich stuff for the last few years.

Treating someone like that loud playing or not was not right. He should have spoke to the booth owner anyway or staff if he had a problem - that’s not how you treat people especially if they’re just trying to have fun in the moment. It’s a guitar show not an ass show. Fuck iconic guitars.

Sounds good!

Original Cali = 3 tube gain stages + CF, diode clipping
Killer Kali = 4 tube gain stages + CF, no diodes

Newer Fortin Cali (the production one with white headshell) = combination of 3 gain stages + diodes and additional tube gain stage via plate-driven stack.

Both Fortin and Gower did them.
so is it safe to guess that this Mod the Killer Kali would be the closest thing to the Mods Mark Cameron was doing for Doug Aldrich and other amps and what ultimately became the CCV and CCM protos

The Synergy stuff has always sounding good. I've often thought of giving one a whirl, but thought it would turn into a module rabbit hole. That Kali sounded impressive as hell. The SLO II sounds killer, and IICP does as well. Shit the Peavey module does too.

No, they are all a little different.

I don't know the exact mod Doug Aldrich had personally done for him. But the "Aldrich" mod that most people know about is 3 normal gain stages and an additional 4th stage is obtained by getting rid of the cathode follower and driving the tone stack via the plate. This gives you 4 gain stages without adding more tubes.

The Killer Kali amps I've seen all had a 4th additional tube and retain the cathode follower for 4 gain stages.

The Cali mods Fortin did in the past, to my knowledge, were variations on the "Jose" mod. i.e. 3 gain stages + diode clipping.
The Cali production amp I had, had 3 tubes, a plate-driven stack, and switchable 4th stage and switchable diode clipping.

The CCV is 3 gain stages + diode clipping.

It's funny because that module is supposed to be more raw and have more bells and whistles but then once again...too polished when you sit with it.

Didn't Fortin also do the mods/design for the hiwatt Super 50? Seems like that would be bang for the buck and stretching your dollar.
