The same can be said about any Gibson, none of them are worth what they sell for IMO...

I dunno man... $2,600 or so for the best sounding guitar in the world (my R8)??? That sounds overpriced at first, then I plug it in and whoa...

Its all relative and in the end just boils down to personal preference Chris. Id gladly put my GMW's up against anything Gibson has to offer(playability, tone, quality) and I got handmade from the ground up customs for less than 2600. If I ever wanted to sell them I could get more than I paid for them because theyre pretty rare( due to the nature of what they are , not because theyre GMW's). Of course, Ill never ever sell them because theyre everything that I could ever want in a guitar. If these new Gibby;s were priced alot more reasonably, Id really be interested in picking one up...

I predict that this model will flop and be discontinued before too long. Why? Well part of it's the pricetag, but you guys have to realize that probably 95% of Les Paul players don't want a Floyd-Rose. I understand a few people do, but not many.
I hope not, at the very least, it should be kept as a resonably priced option. They should also hold on to that new neck joint config, Floyd or not, thats something that they should have addressed years ago... I cant see having comfortable upper fret access being a bad thing if nothing is sacrificed...

Maybe one of these days we'll get together somehow and let my R8 stomp on your GMWs in the tone department? LOL... Just kidding. But seriously, yeah it's personal preference. I honestly do think that my R8 is unbeatable. :)
Hey , I welcome it, we'll have to bring Rowlands and HMJ along as well!!! I dont doubt that your R8 is a toneful guitar Chris but I fully believe that youll be amazed at what you hear out of my GMW Floyd pauls and I think that your precomcieved notions may be seriously challenged...

He he, I really was just joking. I have no doubt that your GMWs sound great!
I didnt take it as anything but Bro, you ve got a long history with Good tone as far as Im concerned( checked out Driven To Insanity this weekend and really dug it!!!Wah'd your ass off!!) I just know how you are with LP's and Floyded LP's at that and Im just saying that I think that youd be pleasantly surprised...

It looks like Ill be in St Louis sometime in the next year, Id love to get together with you guys!!!

But see, this is what I'm saying... Real "die hard" Les Paul guys don't want that neck heel changed and certainly don't want a Floyd mounted on it. The "die hard" Les Paul fans like them the way they are... That's what I mean about "traditionalist" or whatever. Don't change a good thing!

But yeah, I know others want that stuff. I just think that's the minority.

Chris

PS - That's just an opinion with no actual data to prove anything. :)
Absolutely agree... and its a pretty valid opinion, I havent even seen what the guys on the LP forum have said about the Access model but I dont need to have a damn good idea that they dont approve...

LOL!, thanks man! That "Driven to Insanity" song was recorded 100% live in the studio. Notice how my right side rhythm guitar part cuts out when I play the lead. That's a really rough lead in my opinion, but I kept it anyway. It makes me cringe when I hear it, because there are some not-so-good moments in it. It's also kinda "rare" to hear me with a wah. I feel comfortable using them and stuff, but I rarely do. I have a nice sounding Budda Bud Wah at home that I modded to sound deeper like the Hendrix wah, but I NEVER break it out. lol... I should.

Dude, if you're EVER in St Louis, you know to look us up. We MUST get together if that happens. Hopefully you won't be a Digital Jams and come to town and not even make an attempt to meet anyone. Yeah, he was busy... BLAH, BLAH, BLAH...

was it a little rough? Maybe but you strung some cool ideas together and thas why I stuck out to me( that and the Very rare wah useage from you!!!)

trust me, Ill give you a heads up because not only do I want to hang, hopefully I can plan it so that I can catch one of your gigs as well... Who do we get to toss in the bushes?

This is a Custom Shop as well. 82-85?? XPL.

Cool guitar but that would be more of a copy of a studio with a floyd wouldnt it? does that volume knob get in your way sometimes?

No It came from Gibson with a Kahler and an Explorer neck. Pretty rare. I actually like the volume knob really close like that for some reason.

I dont remember how many Deluxes we bought for $400 and cut them up for humbuckers and everytime we would play a Boston song because nothing else was known during the 80s for LPs

It is funny the company they tried to sue they are now copying, Paul must be laughing a bit right now :D

Man, Les Pauls were all over in the '80s vids. ALL OVER! I don't know why people don't realize that? I remember it myself, but it's been confirmed now since VH1 Classic is airing all of those old videos again. Les Pauls galore in the '80s vids!

Well nobody was going to run out and buy a LP because the guy in the Bullet Boys was playing one. The fact is that no guitar heros were sporting a LP in the 80's for the most part. Randy was mostly known for his Jackson V's and Slash and Zakk weren't around yet.

Jackson and Charvels were also in every other 80's hair video. Eddie was the most popular guitar and Kramer reaped the benefits. And once Satch and Vai were known Ibanez really took off.

I think it was early 80s though (say 83 or 84) when Jackson, Dean and Kramers started really whacking into Gibson and Fender sales... then Ibanez hit right after that. Seemed like every shred guitarist had an Ibanez deal in the mid to late 80s...

From what I remember, LPs weren't really wanted until Slash and Guns and Roses hit big in what, late 87, 88? Then the LP made a huge comeback.

86 or 87 Kramer was the number 1 selling guitar on the planet, crazy now that you think about it and what was really USA and what was imported ESPs

Kramer was VERY close to buying Fender

As I've mentioned several times, I just, in the last three years, got into Les Pauls. When I first started playing I didn't like Les Pauls for all of the usual reasons...heavy, no trem and lessor neck access. This "new" model changes all of that. Makes me wonder how many would have picked a Paul back in the 80's if it had these new "upgrades?" How many missed sales during the 80's because it didn't have these "upgrades?"

They weren't wanted by consumers, but they were played alot by pros. So really we're only talking about a 5-6 year window where Les Pauls lost their popularity? Wow, I never thought of it that way. That's not long at all.
i was into them since day one, I would have been playing them all along if they were readily available with Floyds!!!

Alot more out there in the early 80s. But I agree not quite the fad they are today. I'm not a big fan of LPs but love my XPLs.

The "fact" is guys like Paul Gilbert or Steve Vai were playing ugly pointy bright pink guitars loaded with whammy bars, but many guys were playing Les Pauls. I really don't understand how anyone can argue against that. Turn it on VH1 Classics sometime and you'll see many more Les Pauls being played in the '80s than most guys will admit. It's right there on the picture tube.

PS - Wasn't Randy playing his white LP Custom is just about every live video/photo there was?

I already said that they apparently weren't selling to everyday consumers and most people played pointy wang bar laden guitars. That's obvious. But they were around and even a little nobody, never-has-been, never-will-be like me was playing one. :)

Regardless of how many Les Pauls you saw on VH1 Les Pauls in guitar stores weren't selling like Kramers of that day.

Not sure why you keep saying that plenty of bands were using LP's in the 80's because i think we all know that. It just that pointy headstock guitars were the main thing for that time period. I think most guys had a few LP's in their collection because of Page or Ace Frehley.

Pretty amazing how far pointy headstocks fell off the map in the early 90's. There were indeed bands that ran ads looking for guitar players that said "NO pointy headstocks".

Well Mars was a HUGE Kramer player and Vivian had perhaps the most sought after Kramer sig model, the Nightswan so you can delete those two guys

Mars had that Kramer Tele that everyone wanted as well, the Girls, Girls, Girls guitar.

Yep. Gary Moore did the Jackson thing for awhile in the 80s also, not sure about Slayer, they were never on my radar. I'd rather listen to cats fuck on a trash can lid than hear Kerry King play a 'solo'. :)

Mars stopped playing his LP Custom right about the time Motley Crue started sucking. :)

Chris

I never liked MC, just thought of them as not being very serious and not very strong musicians but IMO this is their best album...............

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KK7u7w5zEU4

If they changed their name and released this album imo it would have done far better as the crue fans did not like it at all and all the haters loved it. Drums are huge and the playing is far more focused and serious imo, not that typical Sixx bullshit fluff.
