Aright next up! I just picked up a Mark III green stripe, which is the only III I have yet to own. Spent some time tonight working on this reamp. The knobs are all set identical to the other Mark amps, however I will say this amp needed more 80, 750 & 6600 to get to what I felt like was the same place. Especially a lot of 750, otherwise it sounded very AJFA...

The other odd thing is that the tracking seems... slower. Comparing to the Mark IIs and IV, I feel like I should bump the backing track to line everything up. That seems odd. I did not do that here so we could get a better comparison. Do you hear it?

Anyway the first III reamp is in the folder, see "MKIIIG P10". Yes, Presence on 10 like the others and MV on 4! (with volume control handled by lead master like the others.)

Side note, no way in hell I could run the presence on 10 with a blue stripe. Greens are just a blue in pentode my ass....

III sounds good! I didn’t notice an issue with the tracking after a couple of listens, but someone with a better ear might hear it differently. After re-listening to the other tracks, the B+ is still my favorite.

Thanks Sonny. That's because the late IIB+ is the greatest rhythm amp of all time!

Alright so I played the Mark III green stripe at band practice last night. Cliff notes- the presence on 10 was a bit harsh in the mix so I found some settings with much better clarity. This led me to reamping with the new settings today, and to my ear I like it a lot better. The clip is in my onedrive folder names IIIG P55. All my favorites from each amp are in the main folder now & old tries are in the "older mixtest attempts" folder. I think where we're at now is getting REALLY solid.

Longer III story- There are some similarities and some differences to IIIs I’ve had before.

Similar- I think the III (stock) is a better punk/ thrash amp than any other amp.

Similar- the bottom end of the IIIs is the weakest of the Marks. It makes me wonder if the power section needs recapped. As mint as this thing is it had to have spent most of its life sitting.

Better- the top end presence and 6600 is fully usable. No red or blue can do this.

Similar- with the IIIs specifically I don’t care for treble pulled live. Muds it up. However, for the recording I keep it pulled to help with the chug.

Different- so much gain! I play the IIs with the lead drive around 3.5-4 depending on which boost I use. With the green I had to roll way back to 2.5 for it to really have clarity with the boost. Over 3 it was just a fizzy mess in the mix. That said, these reamps are all straight in.

I will say this amp has a better bounce and lead tone than any red or blue I’ve had. Still not C+ good, but very solid in the feels and better than most. Anyway I think the green is a prime example of a good III.

Also to clarify from my other thread about the III being slow, the first III P10 version was as-is (slow) were this new P55 version I time corrected.

Alright to wrap this thread up, I put together the final iterations of the 4 marks, level matched and spliced so we can get a good idea of the similarities & differences. Check it out. Once this degree of tweaking has gone into it, to my ear the differences are pretty subtle.

I would rank them in the order they are in the vid. In other words, the IIB+ is number one for me. But all in all I agree, the differences are pretty subtle.

I'm digging the C++ and the IVb the most here as they seem to have a more in your face presence to them, but they all sound great and i'd be happy with any of those on a album. The IIB seems to have a kinda roundness to the attack that the others don't have.
