I agree. I generally try to get the most rude, aggressive high gain sound I can. Currently that amp would be my mark iic (way more aggressive, raw than the iic+ or iii's IME). And Justice For All always has been my favorite Metallica album for sure

I also for that reason like JBL, Altec and Crescendo speakers and '60's Gretsch Supertron pickups. Pretty much all speakers and pickups made in the last 40 years or so I also find polite, tame and just plain boring vs those great old ones they used to make. No one I know uses them for metal, but they can yield the most nasty, gritty, raw tones
Ya I like the originality in your tools to get tone

The cool part is also I didn't choose any of my favorites gear pieces at all to be original or unique. I just try everything I can, do AB comparisons and decide what I like. My amp choices are not at all unique lol, but I don't know any metal guys using my favorite speakers, pickups, guitars or tube choices. I still also really like Lundgren M6's like you. The one non-vintage pickup that has use for me

The lundgreds ruined other pick ups for me . I just love them

They're great. Their cleans and neck pickup is also just as good, which no one talks about for some reason. I'm excited about their new signature model for Per Nielsen. That being, said my '60's Gretsch Supertrons and a few other pickups of that general era to me are in a league of their own to me in tone and organic rawness. For high output ceramic's my overall 2 favorites have been the '80's Dirty Fingers and Schaller Blade's, but after that maybe it would be the M6 for me. For modern pickups I haven't liked much else really since getting into great vintage pickups

Yeah I think the main thing was the controls. Presence cranked, treble down. I like the ability to go from more of a classic modded Marshall to super clanky with his stuff. That’s honestly why I’m really digging his mod currently. It gets smoothish without disappearing. Which honestly would sit really good in a band mix with clankyish bass. I think a lot of people really miss how much of guitar tone in a mix is the bass.

I told him I wasn’t interested in any kind of classic or mid gain tones which he delivered, I don’t think there’s anyway I could get mine as smooth as yours especially with v30s, mines definitely not an easy amp to record though, it’s just so tight in the bottom that it’s hard to get it to glue with the bass, I’d really only use it for the most extreme fast death metal, but that is what I asked for. If there is something he could do to get mine closer to yours I might do it since I’m basically only recording these days

I tend to go for cleaner bass tones cause I usually like to use a ton of gain on my guitars, but that’s a whole other topic.

Yeah for me the Hermansson's are specific tools I like for faster styles of metal (not just death metal, actually imo excellent for some black metal too) or when I want that unique high end aggression it gives. Not everyday amps for me, but to me best in its class when the appropriate niche comes up for them. I feel with the Marshall 5GS I had or even my recto's when I dial it in smooth like that I may as well just use another amp that does smooth better. Not really their forte imo, but just my opinion

I don't see why he couldn't add the same switches as the Marshall if it's also a gutted 5GS rebuild like his Marshall's. The inherent character though of the Carlsbro 5GS Hermansson I had was less smooth/more raw than the Marshall 5GS I had. Maybe it's those Patridge tranny's, not sure
