How Could the French F Up So Badly?

My take on this boxing situation is this:

Boxer born biologically female.
Boxer has xy chromosomes as per DNA tests.
Boxer therefore is biologically female with female genitalia but genetically male.
Boxer has higher testosterone.
Boxer therefore has increased muscle mass, bone density, etc…
This boxer has a unique and unfair physical advantage in women’s boxing.
The Olympics should never have allowed the fight to occur and a possible precedent to be set for other sports.

Can I punch it in the face now and get away with it?

If you have XY chromosomes = Male (with 1 rare genetic disorder out there)

Does Imane Khelif have XY chromosomes?

IBA Russian president, Umar Kremlev, claimed that DNA test results showed the two athletes have XY chromosomes, citing it as the reason they were disqualified in the world championships. The IBA also cited high levels of testosterone in Khelif's system.

However, the test results were never published and Khelif has never disclosed her biological markers, calling the decision a "big conspiracy." The disqualification came after Khelif defeated Russian boxer Azalia Amineva in the 2023 tournament. IBA said it stripped Lin of a bronze medal because it claimed she failed to meet unspecified eligibility requirements in a biochemical test.

XY = Male
High Levels of Testosterone = Usually Male
Physical appearance of both = Male

Those are men baby! Yeah!

You might be able to, I’d probably struggle. 😂
We all want things to be black and white. Nice and simple.

But here you’ve got a female who’s somehow genetically male with male levels of testosterone who’s weirdly enough been allowed to fight females who are genetically female with female levels of testosterone.

This is not simple, and in this case most people feel it’s also not right.

I’m no geneticist but anyone can clearly see that an advantage exists and it couldn’t have happened at a worse time after the whole gay-people-apparently-insulting-Christians thing at the opening ceremony.

Those are men baby! Yeah!

This has done nothing to get rid the stereotype about female athletes from exotic locations and their blokey looks…

The precedent is a little worrisome to me though. If the precedent includes not being able to decipher if someone is a man or woman without a DNA test, how far back is this testing going to go? Will people have to be DNA tested to play highschool sports? Scouts aren’t going to waste their time recruiting someone unless they know for sure, right?”

What I find most interesting is that I’m noticing a very large overlap between people who preach that the government is overreaching with collecting info and tracking it’s citizens and all that; and people who are now implying a need for basically a genetic makeup database for anyone competing in anything that has both men’s and women’s portions.

I’m not directing this at you, but I think people should maybe think about what they are wishing for.

Totally fair point man, and a good one.

I just did a quick Google and it turns out there's been something like 18 intersex Olympians going back to 1932. The more you know.

Have they figured out if these two boxers are male or female yet?

I think I read something about boxing organizations being aware of her “condition” for lack of better term, but took into consideration her career record wasn’t impressive to the point that she was showing any natural advantage.

“The problem was not with the level of Khelif’s testosterone, because that can be adjusted nowadays, but with the result of the gender test, which clearly revealed that the Algerian boxer is biologically male.”

István Kovács, the European Vice President of the World Boxing Organization and former Secretary General of the International Boxing Association has also revealed he warned the IOC about males participating in women’s boxing in 2022, but was ignored.

Not that it matters to say this now, because the people that argued against this are disingenuous pieces of this that make you stupider for having interacted with them but here's the clear statement.

So what is the “Gender test” Sparky?

>when you realize the match for Olympic gold in female boxing is going to be a Chinese dude and an Algerian dude punching each other.

How could you get things completely reversed? Wait, I’ve seen this MO before, never mind.
I was actually thinking about this too. In some ways the right boils gender down to genitalia. But in this case they seem to be arguing chromosomes. But as mentioned there can be a mix of genitalia or other sex characteristics and chromosomes. The left seems to be saying your gender is whatever you feel like or want it to be.

Self-declared.
