I figured, "The V30 is just the cool speaker to hate."

You know, any speaker that gets too popular becomes the hated speaker.

G12T75 (supposedly scooped, fizzy, boomy, etc)
EVM12L (because of Zakk Wylde)
V30 (bad midspike, etc.)

Well, I've always liked and defended the G12T75. I also continued to like the EVM12L. The V30, I figured, it can't be as bad as everyone says. Boy, was I wrong. I thought maybe the cab sounded weird (mesa oversize) It wasn't boomy, it was just kinda bassy, thin, and weird.

Last night, I loaded a WGS X pattern of V30 and CL80. It instantly turned into tonal Nirvana.

I mean, it's the sound in my head. Huge sound. I became one with the music.

So, will somebody buy this quad of like new 8 ohm Vintage 30's??

I guess I was cool before it was cool, because I've never liked them. They're not bad, but I definitely prefer other speakers. (Like the G12T-75 and EVM12L ;) )

Well it depends on the amp and the construction of the cab really.
I hate G12T75 on Marshall cabs but love 'em on various other cabs.
Vintage 30 is not a bad speaker either and records pretty damn well IMHO.

+1 to depends on the amp and cab.

I think they are disliked partially because they seem to be the standard speaker, you see them stock in anything from a Fender supersonic, to a line 6 spider valve combo, to mesa and bogner cabs. I can't think of a speaker I own that would work for everything.

And yes CL80's and V30's are a good combo

I like them, but I think the G12H30 is a better speaker.

V30's sound thick, cut well with high gain but sound like wet cardboard when played clean
G12H30's sound meaty, cut just as well under high or low gain, and have a treble bite that's just right.

Win.

(And just so it's clear, he's referring to Warehouse Guitar Speakers Veteran 30 and British Lead used in the same cab.)

V30s really don't sound great to me. If you like bass heavy chunk tone then they work well but they don't have the high end detail that I like at all. So when you combine them X pattern style they are far far better and generally make the low end nice.

i like em, love that guy in alot of different settings BUT it shines with a close mic for sure. guess i got bad taste

That's definitely the primary aspect of them that I do not get along with. I like really present and "airy" sounds. Have fun trying to get that out of the current Celestion Vintage 30s. :aww:

The Warehouse Veteran 30s are a lot more even, though.

I'm guessing you pulled all four V30's out because they were rated 8 ohm and you couldn't mix two of the Mesa V30's with the Warehouse Classic 80's because they were 16 ohm. So you had to pull them all and Whorehouse it up.

If the Mesa V30's were rated the same as the Warehouse I would have pulled only two out and mixed in two Warehouse Classic 80's just to see what it sounded like first :)

wrong.

I needed a 16ohm cab so I could use 4 4x12's at once.

And, seriously, I wanted to have all WGS speakers. Celestion is pretty disappointing in my experience.

I like V30's in the Bogner 4x12. I think the amp used makes a difference I suppose but that cab souds decent with a bumnch of different heads to my ears..

People liked to hate the G12T75's but I always liked them in Marshall1960A cab used with a 2203.
