I figured, "The V30 is just the cool speaker to hate."

V30's are basically impossible to beat for modern metal rhythm tones, especially low tuned modern metal. There's a reason the two best modern metal producers (Andy Sneap and Fredrik Nordstrom) pretty much only use V30's for every band they record.

Modern metal sucks ballsacks   Sorry but just because those 2 guys use them doesn't really mean anything.

LOL, too funny

Just off hand, what speakers does Rick St.Pierre use in his Wizard cabs?

Definitely the best amp/cabs I've heard in person!!!

I played an ARD cab with greenbacks, not sure about the wizards though.

Mine have RI GB's. The new ones are using the Heritage GB's, Celestion Alnico Golds and his own Wizard Rock 20's (another GB type speaker).

Far f*cking out!
Thanks man, kinda makes me wanna go out a get a bunch of GBs.
Dang GAS, hits us all when we least expect it, LOL.

Anything loved alot is usually also hated alot.

Why the hate? I hate mosquitoes, because they're annoying... but i just can't bring myself to hate a speaker. :D

V30's work GREAT with Mark series Boogies. I had my Mark III hooked up to my Recto 2x12 loaded with V30's, just ask Ralph what he thought. I think they work well with the Mark Boogies because with the EQ you can dial in whatever tone you need. When i first recorded with V30's it sounded like ass. 2 seconds of moving the EQ sliders and all was fine.

I look at V30's as an industry standard piece of gear, much like an SM57 microphone. If V30's sucked i doubt that just about every single amp company would load their cabs with them.

I have to echo what Danyeo says. I tried the Mesa Grilled 4x12 with Black Shadows. I liked it at first but got tired of it. I got a Mesa Traditional with V30 and I mated that cab with a Mark III then a Mark IV. I think it sounds really good.
A simple Eq change on the Mark goes a long way to tweek it to my satisfaction.

To each his own....

They're also Andy Timmons favorite speaker. He's got TONE.

I like them. Although I've only owned them for about 6 months. I like their projection and are much clearer sounding from further distances away, at least compared to the 100 watt Rockdrivers in my H&K cab.

To me there's always a "sweet spot" to find in V30s. Otherwise they're one of the most versatile speakers on the market. Sure they have their drawbacks associated with different genres, but let's get real...V30s can be EQed to sound good...period. I'm not saying they're perfect by any means or could even be used to get "your sound," they just sound great. Not the best speaker in the world...but there are probably better speakers associated with each style/genre.

With that said, my Diezel cab with G12H30's + V30's in X pattern sounds like the warmest, richest, tone I've ever heard in my life. PERFECT with the Einstein...Try it out!

I've been reading reviews on the Warehouse V30s. Everyone says these have a little less bass than the Celestion V30s. For another alternative to the traditional V30s, try the Hellatone 60Ls. They have more bass than V30s. The mids/highs are more focussed too.

That's definitely the primary aspect of them that I do not get along with. I like really present and "airy" sounds. Have fun trying to get that out of the current Celestion Vintage 30s. :aww:

That would explain it. I prefer darker tones- I don't dial in a whole lot of high end; I used to run my 2204 with the treble and presence on 0!- so I'm cool with V30s. And I like the upper mid spike they have. I don't get along with bright tones at all.

Hellatones are actually Celestion V30's that have been worn in (same brand and everything, they just slap "Hellatone" on it. Nothing more!

I like them, but I think the G12H30 is a better speaker.

V30's sound thick, cut well with high gain but sound like wet cardboard when played clean
G12H30's sound meaty, cut just as well under high or low gain, and have a treble bite that's just right.

agreed, dont like them for clean, LOVE for dirt tho.

You're thinking of a Hellatone 60. I'm talking about the 60L. Two different speakers man.
