You guys got non oxygenated gas available close by? I always use that for small engines. Mixed with stabilizers, no problems, even being lazy with upkeep.

I can appreciate the convenience of electric saws, but they would not last a day after a hurricane hits. When Sally hit us I was running them nonstop for 3 days and some nights just to cut my way to the road so I could go back to work 😡
Some of them were 100+ year oaks that were nearly 5 feet in diameter. That shit sucked. I took 2 loaders just to get that shit to the road
They certainly have their limitations but for the average home owner, it's a no brainier.

Yes, but also quality has dropped. In the 80's Echo equipment had 3 piston rings, now they use just one.

Also, what really killed the lifespan of 2 cycle equipment was the removal of carb adjustments. These machines are running lean to begin with and any lack of fuel flow from the fuel lines or filter will be eating that one piston ring quickly.
You are right about quality dropping. All mine have carb screws though…. New stihls don’t have grease zerks on the head so that’s just a matter of time. I prefer the amsoil mix. One bottle in five gallons of fuel and your g2g…no matter what mix requirement. Shit just works. Witchcraft I say…🧐

Most of the synthetic oils are good but I always go with the OEM oil. You never know what coatings and materials the engines where engineered with. Using the OEM oil is always the safest bet.

Screws you say? Probably a mechanical idle, but what else?

The first screw is your idle adjustment, the second screw adjusts the fuel amount under load while it’s running….

Here’s a couple different ones…

Not plugged. On the stihl you turn the black things instead of needing a screwdriver. Older ones were just screws. On the green one you need a special tool to adjust the plastic adjusters…or needle nose pliers. The spring is attached to the throttle.

That's cool, it will last a lot longer if you can adjust the mixture. I like to put the mechanical idle up a bit high then fatten the low speed. It makes for great throttle response.
