Does anyone have pics or know for certain what type of engine was in the General Lee during the second season of the Dukes of Hazzard? A friend of Tom Wopat's says it's the same engine as the first season, but the car clearly can jump greater distances in the second season

Well, ok, it devolved for sure, but if by cool and interesting you mean someone coming in spouting hearsay as fact that people might possibly waste their money on, I'm sorry, but I felt compelled to comment...

Steve

I meant the original pics in the thread were cool. The rest kinda went to shit.

Some of the same characters from that monster thread over at TGP making an encore appearance here I see.
Judging by Steve's avatar - I'd say that's ego run amok! :scared:

These threads always turn ugly. I'm just not sure why the OP doesn't show the proof instead of insulting anyone who opposes his view.

I have the statement from the engineer who rebuilt Ed's plexi, a pic with Ed and his VOX/Marshall rig and attenuator (silver box on top of the amp). Now show me the "proof" to support your argument that Ed didn't use a VOX/Marshall rig. I'm waiting "Himey"!

Without really spending any time or tweaking (I'd just recieved the amp that day), And eith a low output paf and no echoplex preamp- I'd say that amp gets it, all day long.
Just killer EVH-style tone and proves what I've been saying in this thread since my first post...

Exact reaction I'd expect from you. You don't know what you're talking about, you were proven flat wrong about one aspect that proved it and now you act out against the person who proved this in frustration because you feel powerless. Take a deep breath, relax.... There now... feel better?

I refer you to gainfreak's post about arguing from ignorance. Read it. Learn it. Live it...

I've gotten a few things from this thread:

-echodrive has zero class...throwing a hissy fit and name calling because people don't buy into your OPINION as you try and state it as fact is pretty sad and pathetic.

-Steve has handled himself with class and dignity in the face of uncalled for childish behavior...kudos for taking the high road. He also clearly rocked the spandex :inlove:

-Pete can cop the VH tone, and even more importantly the bounce and feel, better than anybody else I've heard.

Now, to end all the speculation...go back to the pic with the Vox. See that Schlitz Malt Liquor can on the floor? There's your secret.

And FWIW, I think the tone on VHII smokes VHI...YMMV.

+1 Great clip!

In addition to that spectacular SL68 clip, I am pretty sure the Blankenship Variplex or Dave Friedman's 1968 50 watt Plexi fall under the category of "as close as you're gonna get."

My favorite as well. Here's my take on it (excuse timing at the start - recorded quickly and couldn't really hear the backing properly):

Doctor

Thanks, much appreciated - I was starting to get a bit frustrated with the name-calling, but I decided to just consider the source...

Dave's 68 sounds great for sure. Certain plexi's are just "it".

The Wolfgang sounds different through the Suhr amp, and maybe even more "Ed"-ish". I dunno, maybe he used a Dimarzio SD or Mighty Mite pickup on the VH1 album, hard to say. Or maybe it was just a PAF. Anyways, the fun is in the notes and the playing and songs. well, the amp is fun too :) But the music is where it's at..

One other thing I think is funny is when guys say "if I had that sound I don't know what I'd do with it, play in a VH cover band??" I guess you could, but really, you just play rock music with it, your own, if you wish. It's just a killer sound, a NMV plexi cranked!

+1000

Eddies best tone ever

Suhr SL68 clip does have a van halen vibe, but its not van halen 1 sounding(first album),van halen 1 is more aggressive and edgey.

I just wanted to post this for imformation purposes,in the mid 70s when Van halen were playing clubs,Stephen Pearcy of Ratt would go watch Van halen and got to be friends with Ed,Stephen would sell amps that Ed was looking for and one of the amps that Ed did like that Stephen had was a Vox AC 15 or 30,im just passing this on from a good source,no BS............

There's tons of stuff including magazine articles and interviews with people who've talked to and worked with with EVH to dispute it. Am I going to go look for it to prove somebody on the interwebz wrong.

It's just interesting that in all these years and debate that the "magical Vox", to my knowledge, has never come up.

OK, I'm just going to have to quit taking the bait and shut up.

I swear i will not get caught up in this, let's agree to disagree right out of the gate because I already know you will never agree- but go put on VH1 and listen to the bridge/solo of "on fire"- just go do it. then listen to when i play it. yes the record is brighter/edgier a bit- I'd guess some console eq added in the mix. let's not forget mastering. And a buttload of bright plate verb. But it's the same damn sound, basically. I mean, come on. I could add a a few db using a high shelf, and that'd be it. Listen to the chords i hit at 1:04- there's that ripping high end edge right there man. AND I'm not in the room with the cab- imagine if I was, it's friggin endless sustain.
I'm sayin, once and for all, there's the sound, and if you hear something I don't, or you just wanna go back and forth, well, I just don't know what to say anymore. It's a ballsy cranked Marshall. That's it.

I don't even have the EP3 in the equation- I'll have a Clinch EP Pre here in a few days, that'll even bring it more in line, adding +3db of gain in the front!

Am I nuts or do you rig talk guys hear what I hear?
