Will you guys all switch to Bugera if he gets an endorsement from Behringer? :scared: :aww:

I think so Olaf.....

I'm a HUGE JAmes Hetfield fan, and an overall HUGE metallica fan (doesn't it show? haha 90% of my clips have Metallica in them   )

but honestly I've never been a "buy ALL THE GEAR your idols have so you sound like them!"

The band that got me listening to rock when I was 11 years old was Green Day, and therefore I DID buy a blue Strat (my first electric guitar) at 15. Got a Marshall Valvestate to along with it and I spent 10 years playing THE SAME rig: that Strat with that marshall and 4 pedals (Boss: EQ, DS1, MEtal Zone, Noise Sup., and a Dunlop Wah). Threw the EMG system in my strat when I got into Metal at age 16 - 17.

After that I've bought some things that my "idols" play, like the Explorer I got now, and that was inavitable after seeing James with the guitar for some many years, I told myself I need to own one one day. Also got my John Mayer Strat because I'm a fan and the guitar just ROCKS.

After that man... I've been on a quest to find MY OWN sound. I'm not trying to imitate no one, I have in the past, but for now it's just me. I rock my diezels and my Duesentrieb and couldn't care less if Metallica or Mayer (my two biggest influences in guitar playing) switch to Bugera, or get Dumbles.

As a matter of fact I find it very exciting to own gear that almost no one owns and rock....can't wait to get back to my country and start gigging with my Little Joe..... people's jaw will fall off because they don't know jack shit about diezels over there, let alone Duesentrib amps. and I hope the Little Joe is not the last Duesentrieb I own. Over there they play the same old Mesa/Marshall shit and now the Line 6 fever (POD straight into the P.A., Flextone, etc etc) because there are A LOT of musicians that play in different band and "need" dif. sounds.

fuck that.....give me my real amps!

you will hate me, but i think metallica is the best example how to NOT dial in your amp. :aww:

not at all man, it's not about hating you......tone is S U B J E C T I V E hehe but maybe going to a live show will help you change your mind.

It's a great live tone.

I think the deal with metallica's tone is that is a tone between metal and hard rock... (the current one tone) and some ppl just think it need to be heavier, but it works for what they play IMO

are you referring about the AJFA album - and era, when there was quite no mids on the eq?

What's the Strategy 400 used for??

It's a power amp.

I knew that. I just wasn't sure what he was using it for: slaving, wet cabs in a w/d setup, or running a preamp into it. Anyway, I think I figured out he's using them for the Triaxis preamps. Some how I overlooked the 4 spaces worth of Triaxis preamps  :D

Those 4 Triaxis ain't gonna drive themselves. This is why the Mesa Strategy 400 poweramps are in the rack. Guitar Player a few months back had the rig and some explanations of it. Quite frankly, looks like too much shit to me. But, when you got someone offstage switching for you....go for it! Doesn't Kirk keep a couple Recto's in his rack? Mesa probably sponsors Guitar Hero.

No one has explained why...If you don't have an endorsement(sp) deal with mesa why you go through the trouble of having empty heads/cabs on stage. If you want empty heads/cabs why not use empty Diezel stuff?

A sound engineer I know that did monitors for Metallica for a few years told me James gets his Mesa stuff for free. So even though Mesa Doesn't officially do endorsement deals they obviously have something worked out with James behind the scenes.

Actually, James' setup is fairly simple....hell compare to some guys in here (refering to Rig-Talk in general) who some are not even close to James' success as a musician.

It's just 3 amps:

Triaxis/2:90 poweramp nowadays (he used to use the strat. 400)
Vh4
JC120

so, there are 4 triaxis (heavily moded...which I asume is to get that classic IIC+ tone that Hetfield loves)

2 triaxis are backup
the other two are setup like this: one blends along with the VH4 for overdrive, the other blends with the JC120 for cleans.

Same with the VH4. he's got two, one as a backup.

regarding other stuff such as fx....he's got gates, wireless, a couple of pedals such as Line 6 Delay,, etc....and a few other stuff..... if you ask me t's fairly simple for a band like Metallica.

Kirk has a similar setup only he blends the Randalls with two Racktifiers (don't know if they're dual or triple Rectos). Hell for a lead player kirk doesn't have much fx in there either.

he's a video for both rigs on this tour:

I couldn't get a good pic of Kirk's stuff but all i saw on stage was the randall gear.

I was not suggesting we all run out and buy Recs. It is always interesting keeping up with what different guys are playing. I went there expecting to see Diezel and saw Mesa...that was the only point i was making. Are all you Germans wound that tight?? :D

AtownBcat, let me throw in a hand for Olaf. He's not being uptight...........one of the less uptight guys on these forums....... he said it because honestly....it gets a bit tiring. We get A LOT of posts here asking how to get the MEtallica tones, and honestly even if it's an honor to have such a great musician like James H. using Diezel, I'm sure Diezel does not wanna be known exclusively for the Metallica/James' tones.....which are great, but it's NOT all that diezel does.

I myself am SICK TIRED of people only refering to diezels as metal amps......

Hell I'm tired of this board and HCAF because it's all about metal. I like the ppl here which is great, but you simply cannot post something regarding blues, or jazz or poprock, the thread will die in 30 min.

I hate narrow minded people.

I like Robert Johnson, John Mayer, Pink and Stevie Wonder along with Buckcherry and Alterbridge. Different types of paint but all cool pictures.

You my friend are fine...as well as a lot of other cats in here.... and you've done an amazing work running this board. It has improved ten folds since you entered the picture.

But do you understand what I'm more or less saying regarding the overall interests around the boards?

it's not a personal attack on the boar itself, just what people prefer sometimes gets tiring :)

There was an extensive article about Metallica a few months back, I think it was Guitar Player or Guitar World.
It described how they setup on tour nowadays, and that they are using "basing" - flying into shows, each member staying in a city of choice on the current "touring continent". It also stated that due to the size of their production combined with time limitations for rigging/hauling it, everything is TRIPLED...
