you will hate me, but i think metallica is the best example how to NOT dial in your amp. :aww:

are you referring about the AJFA album - and era, when there was quite no mids on the eq?
I agree. I've listened to a bunch of their live stuff from recent years and it just isn't that great.

Like them or hate them, Korn has a sick guitar sound in recent tours. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pw4PEgbFztQ

AFAIK, they're using a mix of Triple Recs and Herberts I think into Recto cabs. If that isn't monstrous tone, I don't know what is.

i saw-heard Metallica last year and they had the best tone i've heard live from them

it doesn't seem to be the Herbert for me...maybe it is just 2% in the mix :P

I myself am SICK TIRED of people only refering to diezels as metal amps......

Hell I'm tired of this board and HCAF because it's all about metal. I like the ppl here which is great, but you simply cannot post something regarding blues, or jazz or poprock, the thread will die in 30 min.

I hate narrow minded people.

Joey.. You need to go outside and get some air!! or go play REALLY loud!! :D ;) You sound all uptight today..

You love it here and you know it. I am not a metal guy and it's not so bad here.

Indeed!

Where are your non-metal posts, buddy? Please, link us to some of those.

So my understanding is if this James guy stopped using Diezels & shifted to something else, a lot of people would instantly do the same?

hehehe I was in a bad mood later on, so sorry for the rant :D

hey nbarts, I have a bunch of clips that are not metal....you can find a few in the clips section, and in my youtube page.

I don't tend to post links to my non metal stuff because honestly no one cares hehe.

But it's ok, I live with it....the rant later on was based on a mood swing

I actually believe it is the blueface diezel w/ recto cabs. They wanted a sludgier sound. :P

Im pretty sure Korn is using a Mesa triple recto mixed with the VH4 not the Herbert. I could be wrong though.

Actually, yeah I think you're right. Bottom line is that's a nice sound!

Surprised they'd take the VH4 over the Herbert. I'd think the Herbert is voiced more for something like what their music calls for....

I had the pleasure of watching Metallica in Oakland (last December) from the rail and I assure you
he is using the VH4 and not the rectos.

yes for sure, but that won't me my case, i'll stay Diezel forever ;) :D

I think people are too conscerned about which artist uses what amp. Don´t get me wrong, my reason for discovering Diezel is James Hetfield. When I saw he changed from Mesa to Diezel I did the same, bought the VH4 some weeks later.
BUT, after playing with the VH4 for some time I found that the Herbert was more of my taste, and I started to create MY sound. Sure you can be influenced by artist, it´s kinda logical. But I think you should strive to make YOUR sound isntead of copying some elses.

Does this make any sense or did I lose myself!? :D

perfect sense too.
in fact i got myself the Herbert over the VH4 because it had and have "my sound", the sound i like the most.

I love to see the amps different artists are using, and if their tone rocks, I'll probably check them out. However, I won't look into new gear simply because it's what an artist is using. Take Steve Vai - I really like his tone when he used the XTC, which is one reason I own it. I don't like his newer tone as much, so I'll stick with the XTC because I really like it.

You're right though, go for the tone that sounds best to you. If it happens to be the tone that some artist is getting, then it just makes sense to chase after that.

That´s exactelly what I was after! It´s naturall to look inte artist´s gear if you dig the tone, but in the end you have the see what YOUR tone is.
That´s why it´s real godamn hard when you like soooo many different tones!! :D
