The kreator model I had was cool, but imo the inferno (Marty Friedman model) sounded to me like a better version of that amp in many ways and wasn’t limited to just 50 or so made like the kreator model. I didn’t find any Engl’s worth keeping due to the other stuff I had at the time, but my 3 favorite models by them were the SE EL34, inferno and artist editionThat's a good shout. Artist edition is a great amp.
@pintspiller if youre a big kreator fan maybe try the e636 mille amp? The extreme aggression?
I ordered some of those Clayton picks he spoke of. Ive been using the yellow Tortex .73 for about 5 years, after using the orange .60 for 25. I'm going to try the 1.00mm Acetal..
Yeah, I use to use the lighter .60 for aggressive skip-picking and galloping, but I found the pick noise to effect the clarity, and it was kind of cheating and found myself depending on the pick vs. technique, so I went up to the .73. I found myself digging in more, which I prefer. Been wanting to go heavier, and the Claytons have been a pick I've wanted to try. I'm heavy handed, I hit hard.i been using snarling dogs .53 and .60 for as long as i can remember, i like the pick to kind of "bounce" off the string when doing hetfield schaffer type galloping for that nice percussive attack, anything thicker for me tends to kind of pull with the string instead of bounce which loses some snappiness and is harder to play consistent.
To shed some light into the Splawn guess around Jon Schaffer:You cannot get Jon Schaffer's tone without a LARRY Amp. PERIOD. You can get close, about 75%, close but that's it.
A Splawn will not get you there. I don't care what Jon said about Splawn. He was talking out his ass. He knows damn well you can't get there without a Larry.
Man I can’t wait for my PMM . I’m so excited sir !But ya I think it’s incredible you know this much about his gear and songs . That’s so awesome you can tell us this in detailTo shed some light into the Splawn guess around Jon Schaffer:
Since the Burnt Offerings album of 1995 there was only one Iced Earth album, where Jon hasn't used his DINO amps exclusively, but has experimented with some additional amps in the studio.
This is the Framing Armageddon album of 2007 - but...
... also on this album ALL rhythm tracks are DINO exclusively - the Splawn he's used for the solos of 3 or 4 songs of this album.
Moreover he's used an Orange and also a Komet for soloing of some other songs.
To be more concretely to say, which amp he's used for the solos of which songs I'd have to check into old emails and WhatsApp of that time with Jon - and IIRC there are solos on this album, where i.e. the Splawn was panned left, while the Komet was panned right, or vice versa, aso.
The album is Tribute to the Gods. Next to Something Wicked, it's his best recorded tones ever, and right up there with the best I've ever heard. It's just thick, punishing, all-out assault. I think he's always played all rhythms in the studio, and of course layers them for that wall of sound, but Jon is also a beast as a player too.
Cities on Flame on that album sticks out for me, especially, as does Screaming For Vengeance. It's insanely good tone.
I'm a big fanboy too. Have all their stuff, and he's probably been the biggest influence on my rhythm playing for the last 20 years. Him and Hetfield.
This tone is nuts. Classic Rock, sledgehammer chunk.
I have it. I have all their music. The tone on Seven headed whore is amazing too . Check it out
