Slayer rules the big 4.

So, this is how it all started for me - I was playing pool at an unheated house party and as I was checking for good music I came upon "Angel of Death" on a college station on a transistor radio. I immediately pushed record on the radio and taped it so we could listen to over again and I could find out who the band was. ("I can't believe you assholes taped over my Traffic tape!") Um, yah, sorry about that John.

A couple of days later a friend said he heard of a band called "Slayer" that fit the description. I went through quite a few cassettes of "Reign in Blood" because everyone I showed the music to wanted to "borrow" the cassette.

We started our shows with Master of Puppets and ended with Angel of Death. Bloody fucking fun times with that group of horsemen.

Love Slayer and to me they are more interesting than any other thrash band outside of the Crumbsuckers (who are my fav).

Yes, guitar playing wise they were loose and the solos were pretty wild, but it was reckless abandon and sounded very Evil back then. They have some killer riffs and their chromatic type of riffing was different than most in that era. Dave Lombardo is my fav thrash drummer - I felt like he was Bill Ward on speed. So many dramatic fills and time changes. Araya's bass playing will never be considered above average, but his voice was perfect. I never cared about the lyrics though. They never really sold out either and were pretty consistent til the end.

Life of dreams was amazing. The first flutter i ever heard and took me years to figure out what the hell it was.

I also liked Pro Pain, Gary Meskil went on to form that band after Crumbsuckers. Completely different music though.

Slayer at the Ritz on the Reign In Blood tour :

And back in New York on the South Of Heaven tour (which would be the first time I saw the band, but in Houston)...the infamous Night of the Flying Seat Cushions show :

Was Danzig the opener on your South Of Heaven tour show?

To me, music is all about the vibe. It’s become like food and whatever mood I’m in dictates what I want, and sometimes I’m just not hungry. But sometimes I want a spicy bowl of red curry or Slayer, but not right before bed.

Dying Fetus is perfect for bedtime.

Absolutely love Slayer.

Reign In Blood, Season In The Abyss and God Hates Us All...Complete masterpieces start to finish.

I love South of Heaven. Was the first thing I heard from them back in the 80s.
If you wanted a dimebag of bud back in the day just finds a stoner with a Levi’s jean jacket with a Slayer patch.

Slayer sucks ass. It's like wannabe Pantera except for pussies.
Pfffft, Pantera > Slayer? That’s wild. “pussies”, predictable term
from a Pantera fan, indicating you equate performative “masculinity” as validation for your deep insecurities. Pantera is the metal band version of a gang of racist 20-something man baby bros yelling, “Come get some, faggot!”, from the back of a pick up truck (with truck nuts, ‘cause insecurity), while hurling empty beer cans at one scrawny defenseless 14 year old. Vulgar display of Mom & Dad didn’t love me so I’m entitled to take it out on the world.

This fucking forum is man baby central.

That was when I came into them also, so it's not surprising that it's my overall favorite, although I can roll happily with anything up to and including Divine.

Tone/mix-wise I would also have to pick SOH as my favorite. It's so dark and full sounding and it's always easy for me to make it sound perfect on any stereo system.

It was so ridiculous I just assumed he was looking for a reaction.

At the time he posted it I believe all votes were a Yay.
