No need to change the name, just add a "Y" and get this guy to join the band:

Yup. It’s only a name. Why change it? Queue the woke tears

I find it hilarious that people use the term “boomer” which is short for baby boomer. Baby boomers were children born after WWII ended making their age around 70-75. Not sure we have any forum member here 65-75 years old. Heck, I’m in my 40’s. :D

If they hadn't already discontinued it, the Lynchback would be now. Kind of ignorant on my part but I never really thought about any racial overtones in those names. It was his last name so it made sense.

He should go with Georgy Porgy and call the band Puddin and Pie.

Stupidest thing ever. I suppose this makes me a racist by today's social justice standards but so be it.. talk about anything and everything "offending". I always thought of a "Lynch Mob" as an angry mob historically that would string up someone for sorcery, whitchcraft , something that person had done etc.. sure there might be a mob that is the KKK but not all lynch mobs are the KKK. It is ridiculous to me that the guy somehow has to apologize for his family name...and to be honest, does anyone even know who they are anymore besides 80's nut riders like us? It isn't even like this will have any impact on sales or reputation. Maybe go with "formerly Lynch" or "Lynch". But someone might say " Oh wait, hold up partner! Where you going with that... Lynch...what are you lynching? What are you implying? Hey everyone, this guy is a racist!!!"

I'm not impressed..

On cue!

here let me google that for you since you are too busy being unimpressed

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynching

Lynching is a premeditated extrajudicial killing by a group. It is most often used to characterize informal public executions by a mob in order to punish an alleged transgressor, punish a convicted transgressor, or intimidate. It can also be an extreme form of informal group social control, and it is often conducted with the display of a public spectacle (often in the form of hanging) for maximum intimidation.[1] Instances of lynchings and similar mob violence can be found in every society.[2][3][4]

In the United States, lynchings of African Americans became frequent in the South during the period after the Reconstruction era, especially during the nadir of American race relations.[5] Lynchings are common in many contemporary societies, particularly in countries with high crime rates such as Brazil, Guatemala and South Africa.

Main article: Lynching in the United States

Bodies of three men lynched in Georgia, May 1892
Lynchings took place in the United States both before and after the American Civil War, most commonly in Southern states and Western frontier settlements and most frequently in the late 19th century. They were often performed without due process of law by self-appointed commissions, mobs, or vigilantes as a form of punishment for presumed criminal offences.[17] At the first recorded lynching, in St. Louis in 1835, a black man named McIntosh who killed a deputy sheriff while being taken to jail was captured, chained to a tree, and burned to death on a corner lot downtown in front of a crowd of over 1,000 people.[18]

In the South in the antebellum era, members of the abolitionist movement or other people who opposed slavery were sometimes victims of mob violence. The largest lynching during the war and perhaps the largest lynching in all of U.S. history, was the lynching of 41 men in the Great Hanging at Gainesville, Texas in October 1862. Most of the victims were hanged after an extrajudicial "trial" but at least fourteen of them did not receive that formality.[19] The men had been accused of insurrection or treason. Five more men were hanged in Decatur, Texas as part of the same sweep.[20]

After the war, southern whites struggled to maintain their social dominance. Secret vigilante and insurgent groups such as the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) instigated extrajudicial assaults and killings in order to keep whites in power and discourage freedmen from voting, working and getting educated. They also sometimes attacked Northerners, teachers, and agents of the Freedmen's Bureau. A study of the period from 1868 to 1871 estimates that the KKK was involved in more than 400 lynchings. The aftermath of the war was a period of upheaval and social turmoil, in which most white men had been war veterans. Mobs usually alleged crimes for which they lynched blacks. In the late 19th century, however, journalist Ida B. Wells showed that many presumed crimes were either exaggerated or had not even occurred.[21]

From the 1890s onwards, the majority of those lynched were black,[24] including at least 159 women.[25] Between 1882 and 1968, the Tuskegee Institute recorded 1,297 lynchings of whites and 3,446 lynchings of blacks.[15][26] However, lynchings of people who were members of other ethnic groups, such as Mexicans and Chinese, were under-counted in the Tuskegee Institute's records.[27] One of the largest mass lynchings in American history occurred in 1891, when a mob lynched eleven Italian immigrants in New Orleans, Louisiana, following their acquittal on charges that they had killed the local police chief.[28] One of the largest lynchings was the Chinese massacre of 1871.

Mob violence arose as a means of enforcing white supremacy and it frequently verged on systematic political terrorism. "The Ku Klux Klan, paramilitary groups, and other whites united by frustration and anger ruthlessly defended the interests of white supremacy. The magnitude of the extralegal violence which occurred during election campaigns reached epidemic proportions, leading the historian William Gillette to label it guerrilla warfare."[

That's a hell of a long post just to support my point, Lynch Mob can mean different things to different people. You can't claim it for only one meaning and be so high on your country's own history to think it now belongs to the meaning you have associated to it. He should have had the stones to keep his band's name. If anything, it might cause more people to look into it and realize that he is not a racist.

I get it now, you are one of these new age WOKE types. So funny how that is, the minute someone doesn't agree with something, they are a member of the KKK and a racist. Thank God I'm Canadian and we can still tell each other to piss off without being considered members of the KKK ( though, it's coming here too ..) thankfully, you will solve all the world's problems so nothing to worry about.

Until George legally changes his last name to something meaningful and socially virtuous... like Washington or Jackson... and gets down on his knees and washes and licks Doug Pinnick’s feet... I just can’t listen to his socially unconscious material anymore. Just can’t do it.

And to think... I stuck with this guy thru the whole homeless gloves and frosted tips era.

   :D

I find it funniest the liberal tolerance one full of hate and intolerance !
Only in America!

He should have retired it after Wicked Sensation ... nothing they have released since then has even come close being half as good. In fact I can't figure out why he didn't retire the name as soon as his first record contract ended given he always said he didn't want his name in a band name after the whole Dokken thing

We all need to get this post slightly back on track about the name change and avoid "liberal" and "right-wing", etc. titles as we are slowly moving into a political post territory.

I have no problem with all of us believing what we believe but we all come here so we can get away from that stuff. We are all a third party of guitarists that spend too much money!!! :)

Great post and talking point but let's avoid getting on each other

The follow up album was pretty solid even if the tone was a little softer. That said I think you hit it, why not call his band " Wicked Sensation"? It is the most memorable album after all....
