Man, moving gear is becoming a challenge!

New prices are really driving up used prices (fairly or not). I was looking to get into a new Marshall 2203X again but they have shot up to $4199 (!) here in Canada and so everyone with a used one is looking for $3k minimum, when you can get a decent shape vintage for less than that and you know they got it new for $2300 several years ago. Same with the Marshall cabs. Some local guy was endlessly flogging a 1960AX for $1800 saying it’s 2099$ + tax new when not long ago they were $1200 new when he probably got it.
I’ve learned just to be happy with what I have (Marshall SC20, ISP Theta, and Quad Cortex, and a handful of guitars) and stopped looking. Only thing that caught my eye recently is a Badlander but even they jumped in price recently to make it not worth it for me anymore. I’m sure the GAS will return someday but now I’m also concentrating on trying to be debt free and get the mortgage down.

See if some of those German music stores like Thomann, Session or The Music Store will ship you a 2203x. They cost about 50% there and their prices include the VAT, which they'd probably knock off if being shipped outside of the EU. When I was there in July, they had new 2555x's for €1200 and 1959HW's for €1900.

These guys irrational greed knows no bounds. I’ve seen a lot of the, “these are $2,000 new and I am asking $1800,” guys. Even though the price went up days before. They probably bought it used when the price was lower for around $600. .

What happened to guys kicking deals to fellow musicians? What comes around goes around is totally true. . A guy I did a deal with on the gear page contacted me when I was looking for another steckel. He had a Knaggs Stevens which is similar and gave me the best price, BY FAR, I’ve ever seen on a stevens. . He EASILY could have got $1500 to $1800 more for the guitar, but he didn’t. He said he wanted to pay me back for giving him a great deal.

I was super stoked. The guys who are ruthlessly trying to squeeze every penny out of a deal will never know this kind of payback. The guys who make insulting lowball offers will never be kicked a great deal from a fellow guitarist. There are a lot of really good guys on Rigtalk that I’ve done deals with, and it was great as a buyer and seller.

Of course, there have been a couple guys that I gave amazing deals to that had no intention of kicking a deal my way. But one thing I did notice with guys like that is they kept asking for more money off of the price. They would discover different reasons to lower the price by $75 here, $50 there, etc. But, I learned to see it as an early warning system for future buyers or the same guys if they tried to buy another item from me. I agreed one time and said, “ok, I will reduce the price further if we make a deal you will sell the amp back to me at the same price that I’m selling it to you.” The buyer readily agreed and then turned around and sold it for a nice profit.

I have mentioned this experience to some guys and a couple see nothing wrong with doing that to someone, they said, “once you sell it they can do whatever they want with it, it is their amp at that point, that’s a negotiating tactic, I would also agree to sell the item back to them at the price I got it for if it saved me a lot of cash.” Others said, “it is what it is, lesson learned,” while other said, “wow, that doesn’t sit right with me, leaves a bad taste in my mouth.” I found it pretty distasteful as well. But that still won’t stop me from kicking a deal to a Rigtalk friend. Perhaps I’m a glutton for punishment and one of those dudes that never learns a lesson?

If I can offer my perspective here, for us canadian buyers, it is our weak ass dollar. The deals are there but by the time we see what it costs us and then factor in potential duty... we run scared. I noticed the op has a great deal on a Runt right now. I'm surprised that it is still sitting there but goes to show how powerful your dollar is and how weak the rest of ours are. That's probably taking a good chunk out of prospective buyers.

How are they "popping people"? I just recently sniped something from there. He was local, we met and did the deal in person. If they just delete my account that's fine, I'm not ever actually buying or selling anything from there.
Is thus wrong to do ? I never even thought of it that way

Of instead of using reverb the person is close so we just meet up instead
Ahh. Many people use that technique to cut reverb out. One time I was talking to a guy about meeting and doing the deal, and reverb cut into my messages saying that’s not allowed to do deals outside of reverb, so they monitor your messages. Seems super shady and not very legal. But it must be if they are doing it. I’m sure they say it’s for your safety or to help you not get scammed.

Fr that happens? Wow

Oh yeah…and eBay’s been monitoring messages for a while now. About five years ago my account got “restricted” for a week for talking to a guy about meeting up to make a deal.

I've managed to redirect Reverb buyers to my RT/TGP ads with sneaky communication in the past, but I guess the computer algorithms are catching on. It was really only a matter of time, sigh. These days, cameras recognize your face wherever you go. Our cell phones broadcast our location constantly. I'd be getting nervous if I had anything to hide.

This. I’ve had some good deals with people on here and even got an amp back the same price etc by talking about it before hand. Can’t trust everyone though, just have to build a relationship with someone first and the feedback system here works well. Same with local deals, I have a few guys I’ve dealt with multiple times and the favours go both ways.

That’s great! Good on you bro!

This! Should be sone sort of comrodere or we should just call this reverb minus the fees. I see post where cats say , well I got it used and I have really played so I will let it go for what I have in it. I'm sure.many wont agree, but if you got a piece if gear and used it is that not worth something? It should be, because you don't gel with it or want something else you shouldnt have to sacrifice anything? It's used regardless, pass it on to someone else to enjoy and consider yourself lucky enough to have had the opportunity and take a loss , I dont buy used gear expecting to profit from it, if I enjoy it that's the only thing I'm after. If I'm flipping gear I am moving it to profit I need a better job and maybe a touch of appreciation for what it is I really like about gear
