Depends on what you consider "great"...

Mastodon uses boosted old-school Marshalls, although I think one of their guitarists switched to Laneys on their last CD...

Yeah, I've seen walls of Marshalls and Laneys on one of their sets.

Don't know if you're into this kind of music, but Sum 41 uses Marshalls. I thought "Does This Look Infected" was a great disk, some very well written songs IMO.

Yep...

I admit its a guilty pleasure for me, but I think "Infected" and "Chuck" both have some killer thrash-esque tunes on them

What was the last "Great" metal album recorded with Marshalls ?
Where did the "British Steels" and Powerslaves" go :aww:

I am a huge early metal/thrash/NWOBHM fan. I cannot bring myself to listen to or buy anything that comes out these days. Are there any bands around that still have that raw, high mid, pissed Marshall tone. Unfortunately, it seems those days are over and those recordings are getting harder to find every day.

I have a Pandora Radio station set up called "Marshall". :D Saxon, Priest, Maiden, Riot, Armored Saint, Mercyful Fate, etc, etc, etc.................................

Is anyone else with me ???

Well, you don't need a Marshall to get those tones. I could throw my Boogie MarkIV on a Greenback loaded 4x12 and get any old school metal sound i needed.

But to answer your other question. I picked up a Kamelot cd recently which i like. The singer sounds a lot like Geoff Tate from Queensryche. And check out Recreation Day from Evergrey. Great CD.

The guitarist in Kamelot uses an Ampeg VH140C believe it or not.

EDIT: And Evergrey uses 5150's. :D

All fine examples of "modern" Marshall tones. But I'm more interested in "old school" signature Marshall tones. The tones of those bands listed above can probably be had with just about any high gainer on the market today (except for maybe the SS Prong sound).

thinking about it now, i honestly cant think of to many. a few hardcore bands here and there thats about it
