Call me crazy, but I have a slight interest in that JCM900 20 Watt. There's some videos popping up that sound pretty decent. I bet it would sound great on top of my double Freidman 1x12's Creamback cabs.

I really wanted to like it.. so bummed right now. I knew something was up when the anderton's and guitar guitar demo seemed like they played a chord and then stopped and talked about it 20 min but it's almost as if they were trying to convince themselves it actually sounded good. And with all the talent in europe like gower, folksen and others.. they couldn't hire a consultant? terrible

also, Im getting the feeling this whole mod program was rushed to get something out before the HongShan deal.... which will probably change everything again.

Those were production models.
But they were modding the Amps for them when they were in their prime. The production model for Randy Rhodes was a tribute to what they had already done for him when he was alive. Plus there has been no Marshall production model that was a Ritchie Blackmore model.

Can you post some links to those vids? I'm curious

Would love to hear from someone who owned or at least demoed the YJM 1959 amp. Reviews were mixed - as were online demos. This new 'modded' 1959 seems like a stripped down version of the bells and whistles options available in the YJM.

I totally get that not everyone wants a loop - but since the MV is PRE as opposed to POST phase inverter, why not include the loop for those who want it? Its another 'feature' for the brochure, and Marshall's loops all have the convenient one-touch bypass button to take it completely out of circuit when not in use.

If I was in the market, I'd find a clean 'HW' 1959 and have this done, along with a Metro loop:

Show me a price list for any of the modders that are on our forum. I guarantee you most are at 1k on up for any of the mods they offer. I'm not saying that these Marshalls are a better deal; but they are on par with the market. Whether you like it or not. People have told me what these mods cost, and that's a fact. Unless they're misquoting. Hermansson? Shit, you can buy 2 vintage Marshalls for what you'll have into 1 amp with him. I don't have a problem with that, it is what it is. But when the stock prices of these Marshalls are 2400/2600, the modded versions from the factory I'd expect them to be priced right where they are....which is right where the Mesa/Gibson stuff is as well.
I can find a donor amp - one in the ad section now, send it to be modded and it's gonna come in around the same price as the new 800. But here's the kicker, I can actually have them tweak as well - more gain, sure. Res - sure etc... I can pick up the phone, talk to them etc...

I get what you are saying but if you're Marshall, pretty much the entire reason for the cottage industry of amp modders why not bring that in at say 2.5k and reset the standard. It's a mass produced product vs one that is not. I'm the resident Marshall fanboy here, was literally waiting to see what they were going to debut before buying a new amp but I'd much rather go for modded variant or one of the modders actual amps rather than spending that kind of dough on this Marshall. Hell I even think my JVM's are overpriced.

But that's just me and as I said yesterday, maybe I'm looking at this the wrong way.

That would be incorrect. Randy went to Marshall while in England recording with Ozzy and got his white Marshall and they modded it for more gain. The production Rhoads amps were copied from his and released way after his death.

Blackmore never had a signature amp from Marshall. He did take his Majors there to have mods done. No idea what they were. Many articles from back in the day where he talked about it.

My friend has a YJM. I have played it some. It is pretty cool. Sounds like a “plexi-ish” amp.

I hear what you're saying. But, the price you suggest is what the stock 2203X goes for...so, no chance the modded one comes in at that. These prices are right in line with all the other high gain amp offerings, plus it's a new amp and has a warranty etc etc.

As I said though, I'm gonna buy a 70-73 non PCB SL and send it off for a mod. So, as cool as these sound I'm choosing the vintage/modded path over these.

Cool didn't know that about the Rhoads amp

I'll let it go after this but you can buy alot of high gain amps with a better feature set for alot less.

My beef is Marshall finally listened after probably two decades of fans wanting this and their own designers like Santiago trying to get this stuff out there 15 years ago, we have all acknowledged that Marshall has lost a massive foothold in the market, the tube amp market is getting smaller and smaller every year, you have longtime endorsers that have left your product and then they price it right along with non-mass produced amps where the makers have been making a living off modding your designs; as I said above why not bring that in at 1k or 1.5k cheaper and make guys like me "have" to go buy the amp at the same time beating those guys at their own game.

It's a mass produced product so we all know their costs aren't anything like guys churning a couple amps out a month. No I don't get that, not when you are trying to reclaim your foothold in the market. Sure they'll sell some but not to most diehards which IMO makes up alot more of the market now than your casual buyer. I'm obviously disappointed because I want Marshall to succeed but I just think all their price points are out of whack.

I'll say no more.

The craziest part is you can buy the 1959HW for $2,300 and change and have any amp tech do the exact mods of the "Modified" version for peanuts compared to the price of this thing. It's such a simple mod (and Marshall didn't even do the full mod, they did the bare minimum).

I hope no one buys the Marshall modded platforms and tries to sell. They’re worth $1600-1800 at best which is a huge drop from their asking price new simply because they’re way overpriced and not offering anything you can’t get a local tech to do to a stock 59.

Again, it's not about their political view, it's about a cry for attention to disguise a lack of great new material.
And that's pathetic, because everything they released up to American Idiot was pretty much perfect.
I actually dig a lot of the songs on the new album but they are bit more polished than I'd like.

Ypu know what is crazy? I was stationed in area in in the early 90s and Green Day did a show on the soccer field i played on. I didn't get to see it but people said it was really cool. Coincidentally, Tool did a show in Hawaii on a flatbed trailer downtown and Maynard cut himself up and was bleeding all over the place. I missed that show too, lol.
