I was a rack guy for 80% of my time playing but thanks to advances in technology, I can enjoy the benefits of MIDI powered rigs in the traditional head and pedalboard setup which I prefer. In the end, to each his own but I personally have no need for bulky racks and can accomplish alot of the same things without. Dont get me wrong, I think that theyre cool but they just arent for me anymore as Ive learned to do what I need without them..

+1

I used to do the rack thing also but just don't see the need any more. They do look impressive. :D

Ya... Others have made similar comments... and legitimately so... BUT

Surely those who don't "anymore", can surely see how others may and obviously DO-- still find a use.

Having BIG rigs, isn't an all or nothing statement. At least, not as I see it. Either we have a goal which requires them or not.

Me-- I like having the options and being able to choose NOT to use the Big rig-- rather than not using it because I don't have the option. ;)

Yep, I'm not trying to dis the big-rig. When I was playing gigs on a regular basis I had a need for multiple sounds in an instant and a versatile switching rig filled that bill. Now, I write and record in my studio and I don't need the changes instantly. In fact, I record with just guitar -> OD -> amp -> cab -> mic. I add any FXs I need later in the mix process. I record one part at a time, i.e., clean, crunch, lead and so on so there's no need for instant access to tons of tones and sounds.

You use what you need at the time. :D Besides, big-rigs are fun to look at.

ALL good brother... I wasn't trying to grumble at you... Not at all.

There are those twits, and we ALL know who they are, who get their panties in a twist over racks and those of us who actually have a use for them, an appreciation for them, and know how to use them effectively, or play music which doesn't conform to their little box of an acceptable way of doing things... and to THEM I say, "Kiss my ass".  :D

Rack Rigs aren't dead, never have been. They've just gotten better. :rawk:

Your sig gave me this idea:

"...we reject as false, their definition of what our ideals, preferences and standards should be..."

I always thought Code001 had a sweet rack setup, cant' find pics right now, but it's nice. not a MONSTER rig, but a nice size rack with 2 sweet amps in it (rack mounted Mark III and Recto)

Thanks... Me too.

My head is pounding, and my ribs feel like a LARGE and angry Samoan has beat me about with a heavy aluminum baseball bat, from this hacking bronchitis cough, which has resulted in an abdominal hernia, requiring surgery. Consultation Jan 12. Arghhhh

Anyway... Fun racks:
