Mic for recording cab

I hate it. I got one thinking "ah, it's gonna be like a SM57, but better". It's not. It's has tons of output, but it has like no low-end compared to the SM.

Oh, wait, do you mean the original Beta 57? I have the Beta 57A.

I haven't tried one but when I was shopping stage-vocal mics it was stated in reviews that it is a brighter, more cutting mic than something smoother like a Beta 58 which I been using for about a dozen years now.

I wouldn't say brighter than SM57 either. Mine isn't. It's more mid-focused than the SM57 even, IME.

I suppose it's a good live mic. But I didn't find any use for it, personally.
 
I did this a while back, hopefully it helps. We ended up blending the 609 & the SM7b for our album tone.



I do like the Fredman technique as well. IMO it's the way to go with 57s.
