MOD 50 vs. MOD 100

I've tried every EL34 and all variations and I always come back to the GTe34L with a rating of 5. I love that the midrange sag of the EL34 is there but the E34L has a little more headroom so the highs don't squash and the lows are more present and tight.
I didn't like the TS, regular Svetlana or the JJ's. SED are the "true" Svetlana made in St Petersburg factory and I do like those but still not as much as the GT's.
I've also had no reliability problem with the GT E34L tubes where as I blew a JJ on the 2nd day in the amp and both TS failed withing 10 days.
I personally haven't found a better 34 based tube. I also still really like the TS 5881.

The 5881s I also like but still a bit on the stiff side to me, lack the feel and sag of the TS EL34Bs I am using now. I know 6550s are supposed to be a great all around tube.

I will have to try the GT E34Ls although I had bad luck with the JJ E34Ls. I thought they were harsh and lacked what I like in EL34s.

In my VHT 2/90/2...it will only ever have 6550s :). But I like different stuff in my Mod50, so I'll definitely get a set of GT E34L's next time I order some tubes. If the headroom is higher, but has similar tone to a EL34...I think i'll really dig it.

I'm excited to try it out for sure!

Eric,
I know you dig the 6550's but in a MOD 100 the GT E34L tubes crank. I think your gonna dig em. I've had zero reliability issues with them as well. The JJ's are not the same tube as the GT.
This is what the inside of an EGGY should look like.

I'm excited man. Gonna try them out in my Mod50. 6550s and my VHT 2/90/2...well man...that's just tonal bliss for me. I definitely like having different tonal options w/ my Mod50 though. Hence why I have Yellowjackets...a set of TS5881s...etc.

Eric

Now I have to figure out what tubes are going in my RM100 dual modded head. cant wait for that to go out and come back Egged. :D I only bought it because I saw the Mod100 RM100 mod post from Jeff

Well I got the E34L's yesterday.....threw them in the Mod50 today. Ran my main rig (M4 / Lexicon MPXG2) into the return of the Mod50's power section and through the TM212 w/ 2 G12T75s in it. All I can say...is WOW. Those are some damn fine nice tubes! I still love my 6550s...and those are my "babies" but...man....the E34L's...smoke! I'll definitely be selling the TS EL34b's..which are great tubes...I just definitely connected with the E34L's in my Mod50 for sure.

They are warm...punchy...great sag in the middle...tons of great punch, clear and sparkly on the top end, and a great lower midrange grind. They don't have the "beef" of a 6550, but that's okay with me. Especially for the Mod50's power section I think the E34L's are definitely the best tube I've put in the Mod50. I love my VHT and the mojo it provides...but I'm considering throwing them in ChA of the VHT right along w/ my 6550s and see what the provides!

They definitely have more headroom than a normal EL34, which I really like when you push the amp. But they don't get that EL34 power tube distortion I'm not a fan of. They stay warm...and really enhance the tone. I'll try them out in the VHT later on and report back!

I run the RT with a set of GT E34Ls and Svet 6550s and run in stereo and the tone is HUGE,Definitely one of the better sounding E34L.
