What are you guys bias'ing the GTE34L's at?
I run them about 43/45 they were at 44 yesterday when I checked.

I run mine at 35. That's what I was told by Frank when he was Egnater.

Yea Eric, the ME factor is key. Maybe the TSEL34Bs will be more 'me'. I can tell you, right now they are!

On the bias guys, I would think where Eric has his set is about right. 35 seems low. I know even my EL34s are at 39.

I think your right about 35 being low. I was looking at the MOD100 instruction manual it suggests bias for E34L's between 35mV and 42mV. I'm going to re-bias mine somewhere in the middle and see how that does.

I have my KT77 and E34L at 30.1 straight across and put the COD in it yesterday and OMFG the TONE. I couldnt believe what I was hearing. I cant imagine it with the dual mod.

I plan on getting an RM100 and having the mod done eventually. Does anyone know if after the mod, you can still use the Randall modules as well? I am guessing yes, since I can use those in my Mod 50. There are some sweet modded Randall modules, like the Plexi and XTC.

Yes, you can single channel modules.

Give them 30 minutes and watch for the smoke!

Jeff:

What's the word on using NOS EL34's like Mullards or Amperex, etc.? Will the Mod 50 kill a set of my stupidly expensive glass bottles that test as new or might they be safe?

Thanks!

The Mod50 won't kill EL34's....The recent EL34's build quality has been pretty well crap...and bad tubes have caused a lot of issues with a fair amount of amp builders.

Eric

Doesn't matter is they are NOS or new. 34's are a unstable tube and it is a total crap shoot with them. You may find a pair that lasts a long time, a short time and a few minutes. We are only concerned with the fact we have had 34's that have been so bad they have blown up the main board in the amp. I cannot say what model, brand etc. Just want all users to be aware of the risk.

Just had a pair of Mesa Boogies own 34's red plate on my Mark IV. Blew the fuse but nothing else that I can tell so far. Damn.

Heed the warnings. These were Siemens, which I believe is an NOS tube and is suppose to be good quality. Maybe they just screwed up matching them to my amp. Not sure.

Mesa Boogie. No biasing necessary.......

Jeff, is that the same for E34Ls?

Wish I could find something I liked as much as EL34s.

Yeah I'd be curious if Eggie is seeing them w/ the 6CA7's (which is a E34L).

jeff....let me know. I don't want to have any issues...but I'm assuming 6CA7's are okay..since they aren't a true EL34.

Eric

Right now, EL34s are the only way I am really happy with my amp so looks like I am stuck taking a risk!

I'll testify to that. It happened to me a few months ago. The mullards sounded great, but after they blew up my amp I'm weary of trying el34s again. They sounded damn good though so I wish the reliability would improve a bit.

Maybe it was some bad luck, but if I tried el34s again (those el34L's sound really interesting) and I had to replace the main board again, I'd be kicking myself

is running the EL34s / E34Ls up around 35-42 mv part of the problem? or do they shit out lower at 30 ish mv also? I like my E34L on the outside and KT77 on the inside of the RM100.

My friend's all have run EL34s in their Marshalls for years and never had a problem and I talked to my local amp tech and he said he never heard of any issues with EL34s. Said he tubes tons of amps with them and never had a customer call back about blowing up their amp so I am taking my chances. :D
