Motor City Pickups Are Here

I believe that was the Blissterbucker.

So the Afwayu and the Blisster are essentially the same ..., the difference being an "A5" mag in the Afwayu and an "A2" mag in the Blisster ?

Hmmmmmm ?

Don't think so. He'll make a Blisster with an A5 but it's not the same pickup as the Afwayu which is hotter.

Dis be true.

Thanks for the detailed posts. I still may have to try the Afwayus, but since reading the descriptions, I think they will sound close to Suhr Aldrich p-ups I already have. :)

The Afwayus are not too far off from the Suhr Aldrich, the Afwayu I had seemed to be a little sweeter and warmer than the Aldrich. This is all in Les Paul guitars....

Only one way to find out... Iguess I will have to order some. ;)

Psychodave, do you want a pickup that is close to the Aldrich as an improvement or did you want something for a different flavour? The Warcry/hellbaby/blisster/torque/detroiter are all pretty hot pickups but they are definately a different flavour from the Afwayu. I'm thinking that the 2nd deg. blackbelt would not be hot enough for you if you are comparing it to the Aldrich; but it's got a ton of tone and character.

Dave...daneyo compared my LP with the 2nd degree BB to his stock R7 tonight. PM him to hear his thoughts on it

Anxiously awaiting the Afwayu vs. Aldrich results.

OK, so I'm testing the Aldrich and the Afwayu right now. Man these pickups are very similar in a lot of ways. The drive and output are almost equal. Each one pushes the amp about the same as far as distortion and sustain.

The Afwayu seems to have a little more bass and a more solid tone. Again, the differences are pretty slight..but this is what I'm hearing right now. It seems like the Afwayu is a little more ballsier, with a little more low mids than the Aldrich. More dry sounding and the notes create a big wall of sound but still ultra clear with note definition.

The Aldrich is a hair brighter, and has a bit more upper mids. It's a little more cutting sound and more up-front. Seems like the compression comes more from the upper mids in the Aldrich, and more in the lower mids in the Afwayu. The Afwayu is a little more mean sounding, and the Aldrich is more forward and slightly brighter. The Aldrich may come thru a little more in a band setting because of the mids, but I haven't tested in a band situation. The Afwayu cleans up better when rolling down the volume, stays cleaner and clearer longer until you roll all the way up

Like I said, these pickups are very much in the same vein...I'm really trying to point out the subtle differences. Also, this is coming from an alder super strat with a standard Fender type trem thru a Soldano Avenger with KT66's....could sound very different in your personal guitar and amp. Dave Friedman is doing a few tweaks to my Brown Eye Marshall...so it's in the shop and not available!

I'd say if you have one of these pickups already, you'd also love the other because they are similar and kinda do the same thing really well and sound awesome. Meaner= Afwayu, Cutting=Aldrich. That's my 2 cents! P.S., both are in stock at Luxxtone...... ;)

The Angel Dust will get you into that Aldrich territory too, just a different flavor than the Afwayu. A little more hi-fi sounding and slightly more metalish, but still has that slight cool mid-bump that the Aldrich has. Slightly less compression too.

Does anyone know if the 2nd Degree Black Belt comes with a 4-wire option?...the website doesn't mention anything about that model.

It does.

Cool. Do you know if it splits well?
Yep,I have them in a Suhr S2 split.

Thanks, good to know. I can't wait to switch the Duncan Distortions out of my Edwards LP Custom - they're just too colored and hot for my tastes.

What would you recommend for the neck PU of my Edwards LP Custom to go with the 2nd Degree BB in the bridge?
