Motor City Pickups Are Here

I can agree with this 100% in my LP. I swapped out a JB for an Aldrich. Aldrich is a cool pup definitely tighter then the JB. But when I roll own for cleans it is just like having the tone knob rolled off.

Luxx what about Bareknuckles in comparison to the Motor City pups in general.

also I like high output neck pick ups any suggestions? for instance I have an EMG 85 and love that fat singing, tone.

Bare Knuckle and Motor City are both great pickup makers....you can't compare them to eachother in any general way. They both make great pickups, and each has their own flavor and voicing. It's not like one sounds this way and the other that way....they both are great, it all depends on which model you buy and if it's the right fit for the tone you're looking for.

If you're looking for a high output neck pickup, you can always get a Solution neck from Motor City...I believe it's the highest output neck pickup he makes. You can always call Wade at Motor City to help you out or custom wind you something.

I love the character of the hellbaby... are you finding it to be pretty much as I described?

I had to go back and find what you said. ;) Yeah. I'd say you got it right. Wade said it was his sleeper pick-up and he didn't make a whole lot of them. He said maybe the name turns people off. I think it's one of the best pick-ups I've played.

As I said, I put an Afwayu in the Horizon, but I ended up buying 2 Horizons - so the Solution will go in the other one. Do you have the ceramic or alnico V magnet in your solution? I was thinking of going with the alnico V.

I've got a Hell-baby in a one-piece mahogany Hamer standard (explorer shape). It's pretty much the way Wade describes it in the description you quoted.

I also have a Solution in a mahogany ESP horizon.

So... to me the Hell-baby has a lot more character than the Solution. It has a beautifully detailed bottom end (like the current chick in mrp5150s avatar) that is thick and tight but not as tight as the Solution. The mids in the Hell-baby are more aggressive and the highs are indeed "airy"... (no ice-pick in any of Wade's stuff) it's hard to describe but that also translates to an absolutely beautiful bell-like clean tone as well. The Solution is more aggressive in that the crunch is harder-edged and the bottom end is SURGICALLY tight! The Solution is a cool pickup too (and more "metal") but I prefer the voicing and harmonic detail in the Hell-baby.

The Hell-baby has been spot-welded into the Hamer so that it can never be removed. Hope that helps.

Oh, and anything that Wade makes rocks!!  You have to try a 2nd degree black-belt sometime.

Talked with Wade a couple of days ago. Seriously cool guy by the way. I'm gonna be ordering some 2nd Degree Blackbelts for my Hamer Korina Vector really soon. I can't wait. It actually wasn't what I expected him to recommend, but after I gave him the lowdown on what I was looking for and what kind of gear I was using he was confident that was the way to go. And just in talking with him I'd say he knows a thing or two about pickups ;)

Ah, good. Glad that it is working out. I agree with your assessment

Yikes, a ceramic magnet in the solution? That would not be for the faint of heart but it would definately have its place. Mine has the alnico V and in my Horizon (mahogany wings, no maple cap/maple neck w. ebony) it feels just about right, any more bite and it might be a bit much in this particular guitar I think. For a pit of pimping they also have Wade's wicked pitch-black pickup covers. It`s my mass-destruction guitar for sure. :D

Honestly dude, the blackbelts will sound freaking amazing in that guitar. I LOVE those korina vectors BTW! :inlove:

Man. I cant find ANYTHING about the nukes. seems only one kid with a charvel and a really shitty youtube demo has "reviewed" them so far.

I spoke to Wade and he recommended the Nuke for what I wanted, Im just not sure if the hell baby may actually fit the bill better as i am afraid of the output of the nuke being too high,

I'm looking to replace my EMG 85, though I HATE the EMG81.

then there is the solution AND the torque, im so confused right now.

there has got to be a better way to choose pickups than buying one installing it decide you do/don't like it possibly sending it back for another model and trying to compare your memory of the first pickup to the second.

Does anyone have any idea the output level of an 85? how does one compare active output to passive?

anyone know how a hellbaby compares to an 85?

One word for you. Solution. :2thumbsup:

I have one and it rules. If you are into the active thing but want a more open and dynamic tone, that's the pup.
