So what were thr supposed mods Randy did to his pedal? Doesn't seem like there is a hell of a lot to mod.
that's the problem .... I can't find any definitive info that it was even modded .... it's all magic pedal hoopla mojo talk ...

supposedly from what I did find that a cap was removed .... and a value or two changed .....I breadboarded the stock version ... and did probably every mod to the circuit that I found in the first 10 google responses .....

during the time it was an option for guys that wanted " more " ..... weren't many options out there when this came out .... so guys made use of it the best they could ....

as far as a modern tool to shape or sculpt tone ....... I don't think so ...

I'm guessing the magic is the eq after the distortion plus. The best mod anyone could make..

How can they be selling at 600$ already? What would have happened to my order then I wonder.. let's see if it ever ships.
There's a $1K price on eBay.

I checked about >10 (online) vendors the day after release & all are sold out.

Well with the whoever has control of RR's estate ( assuming his brother and sister ) they don't let anything get endorsed ..... matter of fact this is the first product other than the Marshall Head I've seen ..... I can definitely see the " collection " factor of the pedal .

As far as the circuit itself .... I mentioned earlier in this thread .... when this thread first popped up I breadboarded up the original circuit .... did a bunch of research .... and modded the hell out of it .... with what was thought to be Randy's mods .... and any other popular mod that has been done to it .... it just didn't do anything I liked enough to do a run of them .....

I am curious to know what's inside ...... anyone care to show me a gut shot of theirs ??? Is it all SMD ???

If you guys really want a Rig Talk version of the pedal ..... I'll do one but white with black polka dots ....
That would be amazing!

If I open the box, I'll open the pedal and show you what I can without taking "everything" off, so likely a shot of the back?

Just not sure if I want to open it yet, they went from $169 to 650 new and will likely keep climbing. People know there are only 3200 made so this is the type of pedal to charge an arm and leg for.

Price for used units has increased from $600-$749 on reverb, get em while you can!!

How ridiculous of MXR to only release 3200 of these things? I will have to check with my vendor to see if I even have a unit on order.

I want to buy one to flip. 💰

The D+ is an okay pedal. I have one from around 1980 (has ITT diodes). I still prefer the original DOD preamp 250 over it.

They most likely do. They have 2 more sets of batches to be shipped yet in order to complete the 3200 orders

Buddy Guy is suing Randy’s estate over the use of polka dots. No I’m not kidding.

Was white polkadots with a black background actually copyrighted?

I got it just because I thought it was kinda cool, but if they keep selling for $600+ I might have to cash in on that stupidity.

For the time being though, I'm going to wait til I can spend some time cranking it through a couple of amps it might play well with.

I know!!! I'm scared to open mine because I feel like the prices on there will just keep going up!
I thought about doing that, but I bought it to play with.

I'm not in the business of flipping gear, unless I've really decided I'll never use it.

Ahhh okay.

For me, MXR sent me it but the thing is that I have way too many distortion pedals that I have a larger pedalboard with all my unused ones. I probably wouldn't end up actually putting this one on any of my boards.

wondering what they are using for the Germanium diodes ..... this Electrosmash Schematic says 1N34's ..... but I'm pretty sure the original had 1N270's

Dave mentioned removing C1 ..... this is one of the things I read that Randy's had done to it . I tried it .... it does make it sound better ...

another popular mod is to increase the A10K pot to a A100K .... with the A10K you almost have to crank the volume on it to achieve unity gain ... the A100K gives you much more usable range

At least they are using through hole parts .... and not SMD ..... that could be a NOS LM741 too .... it looks old

So I'm other words, the RR Distortion is indeed superior and different to the oroginal. Thanks for that!
