My God...what happened to Queensryche???

+ 1 on degarmo leaving... just tried to get through clips and yikes.

Sorry guys DeGarmo leaving had nothing to do with it, his post QR stuff was as bad or worse than later Queensryche stuff... take a listen to Spys4Darwin sometime. Also his return for Tribe didn't seem to help that album any.

They were one of my favorite bands, but after so many disappointments in a row I don't even look when they have a new album coming out anymore. Sad really.

Ya know, that's what I have been saying too, but looking back Chris was actually there for Promised Land, Hear In The Now Frontier and Tribe, all of which sucked save for a couple songs.

So there's no excuse. At least Chris knew when to hang it up. They should go into retirement along with Metallica.

Tough crowd here. There arent many bands that can keep the songwriting interesting after so many years. Surely we can all agree with that? I mean.....look at Aerosmith..ZZ Top..Stones...Rush is the only band that comes to mind who still puts out strong material. That being said, I agree with all the Degarmo comments, but I'd still rather listen to new Queensryche than 99.9% of the new shit I hear on FM nowadays.

According to Wikipedia... he's now a charter pilot... wow!

Yup. We had a QR thread a while back where I mentioned it. He's been doing that since he left QR. He's one of the few celeb pilots who is ATP-rated (Airline Transport Pilot). Him and Steve Morse were the only two that I was aware of as of several years ago. Maybe Bruce Dickinson too... but I'm not sure if Bruce has FAA ratings or just British ratings.

Years ago, my brother-in-law was up at our local airport FBO ("gas station" LOL) and a guy climbs out of this bizjet with a beautiful, embroidered leather jacket with a giant QR logo on the back of it. Turns-out it was DeGarmo, who'd stopped for fuel. Very cool.

Their songwriting was interesting from 1983 - 1991

I wont argue this point, but many bands havent been able to even do that. VH......78-84. Right?

Theres a difference between the material
Being a little stale and the stuff just being downright terrible. Have you actually heard the new QR album? I would be ashamed to be associated with those songs. And they were one of my absolute favorite bands, but there's just no excuse for that lack of skill. I mean one of the songs is called LuvnU for Christ's sake! Tate has nothing left to say lyrically or musically. Time to stop.

Queensryche just aren't progressive metal anymore....and if that's what they want to do, then fine...just don't market the public that you are back to that with Operation Mindcrime 2, or that you will be playing Mindcrime live in it's entirety. It's false advertising.

I saw Buttswype back on the the very first tour (Queen of the Ryche) in LA and that was the best show I ever saw them play...

It's the hardest thing to do, write an album and come up with great songs. You can practice your chops for years and years and you still may not just have the natural gift to write music. I think it's a very simple thing that many guitar playing men can't understand.

Very true....Ive been trying to write good songs for many years, as im sure many of us here have. Not an easy thing for most.........men.

ugghh
On Mindcrime II, I was excited to see Dio was on it, until I heard it- what an awful mess that was

I can still put on Rage For Order or Mindcrime, close my eyes and smile.... At this point, I dont expect much
Back in the day they were very good at their craft, in a sea of bands that sounded the same, looked the same, and wrote about all the same stuff, they were original, wrote great songs, got killer tones and had one of the best live shows in the biz
DeGarmo did some of the best backups I ever heard live.
For whatever they have become, they have their place in my book, I have a ton of great memories associated with them from the past ;)

And speaking of Geoff Tate..............when did he start looking like a Columbian drug lord?

I was thinking he looked more like King Diamond but anyway....

Didn't Queensryche do something a little lighter already 10 years ago? This is as one poster pointed out, Pearl Jamish innature. His voice really doesn't fit this type of music..AND it sucks balls. absolutely horrible.

When it came out I didn't expect much from it. And it was exactly what I expected -- an attempt to grab back some nostalgic fans with the promise of a return to the band's heyday... or at least a decent nod to it. But Geoff TOTALLY jumped the shark with that one and that truly was when the once-AWESOME Queensryche became a joke to me.
