thanks Scott

to be honest with you i play my Vh4 at home with low volumes

you say to go with the FL?

That would be my choice for the Herbert...the VH4 is a little different as you know, but - gut-feeling here! - yeah I would go with the FL.

Who is Sean?

sean106alcom or something like that - he posts here sometimes. Not taking a stab at him, it's just that my experience with the new cabs differs totally from his.

that guy Sean, he seems like a cool guy (I'm subscribed to his youtube channel), but there are two things that REALLY throw me off about that guy.

1) he wants to be James hetfield or atleast he wants to mimic james' gear. It's totally fine by me to be a collector, and hell even own some of your heroes guitars and amps (I got into Diezel because of James Hetfield, and I even own a John Mayer sig strat) but there's a point where a line should be dropped, and the mimicing should end and the originality should appear you know what I mean?

2) He seems too anal and obsessed about what people say about he being a fanboy. If you're gonna be a fanboy, be one with pride, don't say thing like "yeah, I know I'm a fanboy, whatever, fuckoff, blah blah" and he says something to that effect in every video he makes. Really throws me off because you either don't give a fuck about what other say, or you pay SOME attention and make the proper corrections, but don't try to be all macho and "I don't give a fuck" when you REALLY do.

Don't want to slam the guy...... I really enjoy his videos, but I just wanted to say that. :)

it wasnt meant to diss him, just an observation

really interesting how famous he got with just posting his vids and pics :D

Yeah I have, when I bought my Herbert in late 06. I didn't like them enough to part with my Engl pro, but that has obviously changed. :)

It's really hard to explain, but to me the new cabs sound much fuller, more direct. Don't forget that it's been 1,5 years since I tested the old ones, but I did like my Engl better at the time, and I do like the new ones a lot more than the Engl.

If I understand there are two cab's generations. When Diezel's cab have changed ?

Not really. There's the "old" cabs (US made), and the "new" cabs which are being made now in Germany, so I guess yeah...

Another great afternoon in Dillingen! Thanks Peter! :)

Will post links to vids once I have them uploaded.

Scott, thanks for this great post! I'm playing a VH4 and my main complaint about my current (cheap almost no-name non-Diezel) 2x12 cab is that it can sound muddy without enough definition. Based on what you said I'm wondering if one of the newer Diezels might work better. Can you give me your comments on how a newer 2x12 front-loaded with a black grill might sound in comparison to a standard 2x12 rear-loaded cab? In both cases they'd be using V30 speakers. I hear so many good comments on how the front-loaded cabs sound it makes me wonder if that is the direction I should have gone. Thanks!

Back from Dillingen, finally. Got stuck in a bad traffic jam but the new 4x12FL standing beside me helps a lot ;)

Had a nice afternoon meeting Peter S. and Scott, chatting and of course checking out the new cab.

@guitarobert: I'm also a VH4 user and I can only recommend the new front loaded cabs. Today we tried the combination of V30 and G12K100 in a 4x12 cab. Simply amazing. I'm not 100% if I'll keep the V30 or of I'll change to a fully G12K100. You should definitely give them a try. The only V30 FL sound to boxy imo. The G12K100 or both speakers combined sound a lot more alive and natural.
In direct comparison the rear loaded didn't work with VH4 for me. If you're doing lots of medium gain hard rock and rock stuff it'll sound great. But for any kind of metal front loaded is the way to go. Only my opinion of course.

edit: as Scott said, the FL 2x12 will probably be your cab, not so much the open back 2x12 with the new hemp speaker which is amazingly loud but better suited for hard rock than metal

I totally agree. The combination made it really shinein the 4x12, but if Robert wants a 2x12, I'd recommend trying the new fl 2x12, or wait for the prototype to become available...the black and white tolex one.

Short vid of Peter jamming on my ESP M Custom with Herbert #1000 - from last week's visit is online btw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuHumfiXe4Y

Jaymz82 : 412FL + G12K100 ! Did you still have mids ? Did you use this config in a band ? Is it not too difficult to hear you thru the mix ?

I'm a VH-4 user to and I've got some problem with mediums frequencies : IMO there is not enough mids and hi-mids in my sound... I had a 412 RL CAA with Greenbacks but the sound was too full and "compact" so I changed them with V30s and I changed tubes with JJ and NOS GE for preamp and JJE34L for poweramp. It's better now but I still have to put the mids very high with low bass on each channels EQs.

I'm wondering how to solve this problem...
Did someone have some good advise for me ?
