I'm pressed for time right now, and DIYing the PZMs seems like it's going to take a little more time than I care for currently, so I punted and picked up a Crown PZM-6LP off Reverb. When it arrives I'll try to get some decent clips recorded and posted.

Awesome amp! My fav amp is probably a 2104 (JMP version of your amp) with the OG blackback G12M speakers. Just sounds so good.

Nice! This is almost definitely my favorite amp so far, but that's not saying a whole lot given my limited experience. I don't see selling it anytime soon. What amps have you compared yours to? And, played with the low-sensitivity input at all? I'm really surprised at just how good the cleans on amp are.

Edit: I checked, and the plate voltage on mine sits around 400V, which if I recall is still fairly close to what the JMP's were?

I've had a bunch of amp. I always come back to the 2204 circuit. I've had C+, all the Rectos except a Rev D, old SLO, 5150s, AC30s, Matchess H30, Archon, Diezel VH4s (including an old blue one), 68 and 71 Superlead, Bogner modded Marshall clone, etc etc. To me, I just like a boosted 2204.

Managed to transplant the 4104 chassis to a crate blue voodoo head cabinet, and stow it in the overhead bin on the flight back to where most of my gear is stored. Sounds great through my EVM-loaded detuned 2x12/4x12, though it's painfully obvious I need to recone the speakers. It's a bit band-passed right now because of that. Also, after going Round and Round with several sellers I finally have a PZM on it's way to me (Crown PZM-6R) so hopefully I'll be able to get some good clips with that. I also have access to my SM57 again though so I may try that too.

Alright, got some boosted clips with the PZM through a friend's Yamaha S412III, which is loaded with 8 ohm Vintage 30's. Boost was a Fulltone GT-500. I think the pickups are Lollar El Reyo's. Apologies in advance for the playing.

First two clips are just the booster/OD side of the Fulltone. Volume and Drive are set to about 3 o'clock on it. The mic is about two feet in front of the cab on the floor, which in hindsight is probably the wrong place to put it. The cab is up on casters and more directional (I think) then the last cab I mic'd this way, so I think that's why things sound fairly dark.

Third clip is both sides of the pedal (OD/boost and Distortion) on 'cause why not. The PZM is deeper into the room, around 15 ft away from the cab maybe a little more. This clip is much more faithful to the sound in the room.

That clip sounded better than the other two. The other two seemed a little dark. It had a nice throaty tone to it and that nice harmonic sheen a good Marshall should have.

Agreed. Now I gotta just figure out where it sounds like that close to the cab. Unfortunately I don't have access to that cab again, so will have to wait until I'm back from holiday break with the chassis installed in the combo again to get good clips. Might be able to get some clips in the worn out cab I have here though.

Some more clips with the Force 12's when you get back would be killer. Def looking forward to hearing it some more. I've never played an EVM12 but the Force 12's in my Twin seem to have the same neutral character EV's are known for. Clear and detailed. But you gotta push them for optimal tone. Overall I like the K's a little better for a bit more top end crispness but the price of them now is absolutely insane. Meanwhile Force 12's are $120. The last one I grabbed was amazingly clean too, like stuck in a cab and stored in a dark room clean. The cone looked like it had just come off the factory line. No fading or deterioration anywhere, just a few minor scratches on the back logo.

Yeah, the Force 12's definitely have an EV character to my ear as well. Definitely interested in hearing how re-coned EVM12S's compare when I get the chance. Nice score on the clean Force.

Those recones will def need some break in so you'll have to be patient, lol. I think the Eminence PF-350's I put in the other Twin are just starting to finally wear in, just a little though haha. The kid took a bunch of OSHA training and has some kinda OSHA spec'ed dB meter downloaded onto his phone. At 1 meter it was peaking at 136.2dB max with an average of around 130dB.

Not sure how accurate the meter is but that's louder than D-120's and his old non-osha app-meter which maxed at 129 point something. I hope the PF's break in and sound good otherwise I'm gonna grab some NEO's because that amp with those speakers makes a JBL loaded Twin seem like the lightweight model. Even if they sound great I'm still thinking about venturing into some Neo's this year. Either Eminence EM12n's or the Lil Texas though the Jensen's have a lot of high marks too.

Maybe I'm a philistine, but so far I've loved the sound of the re-cones I've had done fresh off the press. We'll see what happens once I get the chance to break a set it.

Finally!

Woah. On a related note, I'm starting to think playing loud is more important than playing with a lot of gain. Clean or dirty, loud is fun. Quiet, even a super saturated tone loses it's lustre. Keep us posted on the Neo's. I think the EM12N's are supposed to be EV clones, but I'm not sure.

@VonBonfire: apropos video on EM12N's and EVM12S's. Both sound pretty good I think. Personally I prefer the 12S for most of the clips though.

The EM12n's are meant to be EV clones. Reports say same neutral sound but maybe a bit less bass than actual EV's which seems kinda part and parcel of the Neo game. But even the Eminence ceramic EM12's are a little different sounding in demos so who knows. The Lil' Texas neos are interesting because they are 125 watts handling, 4lbs each, and 103dB efficiency. That's JBL E series efficient. I don't think there is a more efficient speaker. If you get a chance take a look at those frequency charts of those two neos and tell me what you think. No rush though, gotta pay my property taxes first so it's gonna be a minute haha.

As for playing loud, well, you need a drummer with a good rimshot or you don't have a rocking band. That means loud, so the amp has to be loud to get on top. Plus moving that air with a bit of volume just makes for a bigger more open sound in general considering the further you get away from it into the audience the tone tends to thin out with the smaller 1x12 combos or just a big amp turned down. IME blackface Fenders don't sound good until you hit 4 or more on the dial plus the volume helps the sustain and sustain is part of a good tone.

LOL, was watching that clip a few days ago. It's a really nice demo. While I would agree the 12S sounds better, who knows how broken in the Neo is and I kinda expect some level of tonal compromise in exchange for the weight anyways. I guess the idea was to minimize compromises in a gigging amp and still have another amp at the house loaded with ceramics or alnicos. I am not the guy who cries about what an amp weighs but I'm gonna end up hurting myself moving that PF-350 loaded Twin at some stage so it's just a reality. I might need another Twin just to put them in for around the house, lol.
